I was wondering if a 9- inch rear could be redrilled for an 8 on 6.5 wheel pattern. I have a 77 EB dana 44 front that I will convert to eight lug, but can't spring for a narrowed dana 60 right now.
Don't believe that tha stock axle flange has enough material to accomplish this. Same goes for the drum. You would have more holes than steel, and failure would be quick.
Well, I have a sweet set of 36 Irocs x16" 8 lug al. rims left over from another project and did not want to pop for new rims. I have plenty of 8 lug outer stuff for the front. Also noticed on the net that dually rearends are 62" wide. My D44 front should be about 61" with set of spacers. I thought about just selling the rims and getting some five lug rims. This is all for a BII with 10" lift, with EB axles. I did not want to go with fullwidth axles. Know anybody with some 10" wide 16" 5 lug rims that might want to trade?
I see, I see. Well I understand your dilema, but I also believe that you can pick up a pretty narrow 3/4 ton rear axle, and be done with the problem. I am looking at a 14 bolt here that measures 60 inches from disc to disc. You have some value in that 9" unit, and should be able to sell it for what a 60, or 14 bolt would run. Heak most can be had for pretty cheap. Some of the 14 bolts, i have opened have had detroits in them already. Talk about a score.
10 inches of lift under a bII, holy cow man, I would think that you would wanna get the axles as wide as you could, to try and keep the rubber side down. That is pretty tall for something so short.
Thanks for the info. actually the lift doesn't look too crazy. Used to have a cj7 on 40" boggers with narrow dana 44's. Drove and raced all over Venezuela with no problems. I have 7" spring lift and 33's on the BII. Now going with 3" body lift for the 36's and fender trimming.
