1998 manifold runner control
My check engine light came on, upon scanning a got the codes P 1537 and 1538. I was told that my intake runner control was stuck in the open position, whatever that means. I have a 98 f150 ext.cab xlt with a 4.2 in it, with 78k miles. Is this something I can fix simply by pulling the upper intake and cleaning, or is there and easier answer. Or is there something that I need to replace?

So far I have seen this only on cars and have been able to flip the lever closed and it has not stuck again on any of them as far as I know. As for the 4.2 it is on the rear side of the intake near the middle and I have not tried to reach one any of these motors so I don't know how har it is to reach. The manual says it is necessary to remove the intake to replace it. What you are looking for is a vacuum diaphram chamber with a short link going to a lever.
