My 99 V10 superduty popped when I started it a few days ago and being short on time I took it to the local blue oval shop to have them diagnose. Turns out the lash adjuster broke/failed and was keeping the valve open causing low compression on #2 cylinder. Recommendation is to replace all lash adjusters per Ford TSB. Anyone had this happen yet?
Thanks,

Found out that replacing the lash adjuster requires a combination of three different valve spring compressers depending on which cylinder you are working on. Cam removal is not necessary, this is the first failure the local shop has seen on a V10. Parts cost approx $25 labor cost approx $180, just replacing the defective one this time I guess if it happens again I will replace the other 19.

Depending on the mileage on this vehicle, what does start to happen is the valve guide will become worn as the valve lash adjuster wears it tends to push the valve to oneside and wears the guide out. this came back from the ford reman guys a few yrs ago.
The adjuster breaking is not uncommon on the modular motor.
Sometimes the piece gets lodged and takes out the cam and can keep the valve open when the piston comes up not a pretty sight.
To the orignal poster consider there proposal on replacing all of them now or do it yourself with the tool.
