noisy c-6

I just purchased a '78 bronco 351m, c-6. The transmission makes a sort of high pitched squealing noise all of the time, even at idle, I was just wondering if it could be the pump or the torque converter or maybe something I had not even considered. Any advise would be appreciated.

Sounds like a loose belt or a pulley that has worn out bearings.

Nope, thats the first thing I checked, the noise is definately coming from the tranny.

whoa, any noise coming from the tranny can not be good sign.

yeah no kidding but what gets me is the thing shifts like a dream and it is not sluggish at all any ideas on the source of the noise?
