anyone have an idea as to how to remove the wiper and headlight **** from a 79? i need to take them off so i can remove the front panel to get to the speedo cable so i can reomve it and get it replaced?
(headers on an aussie 351)
everything else has been taken off its just those two ***** that are really tight
The wiper switch has slot in the ****. take a small screwdriver and slide it into the slot from the open end depressing the spring clip.....while pulling the **** out.
The **** is held on with spring clip that grips the shaft
theres a button on the top of the headlight switch and u push it down and pull the **** out ...and on the w/w **** ...mine just pulls off the rod ...hope this helps
And for the wiper switch, look on the back edge of the wiper switch **** and you will see a small notch. Use something small, I use a tiny bent screr driver, and hook the little spring clip hidden along the shaft and inside that notch. Pull the spring clip back toward the front of the **** (toward yourself if you are sitting in the drivers seat) and when you get it just right, the **** will slid off the shaft. Be careful not to scratch or crack your ****. A trick for the headlight switch, if you have too much in the way to go after the release button from underneath, is to remove everything but the light switch **** from the instrument bezel, wiggle the bezel out a little and remove the AC vent and instrument light from the bezel and you can just wiggle something in there and push the release button from up top. I get my hand in there but I have double jointed bones! :-)
Remember to pull the battery cable. Also digging around in the dash with a ring on a finger is a good way to lose that finger. Plasma will cut a finger right off.

That's the way they damaged.
sorry there is a little more to it than that.
You have to pull the headlight switch to the ON position FIRST ..then depress the button..then pull the shaft out without effort.
anyone else want say the same things as the other 4 posts?
There is a HUGE difference ... that's why I mentioned it.
Too many have been broken from frustration because people just pushed the button and pulled.
The locking device inside prevents it from coming out when you pull it.
The button should be depressed once the shaft reaches that poisition........NOT before
