What would be the differences between that cam and the stocker? Lopey idle? Low end grunt? High end ponies? I notice it has a lower operating range (800-4800 RPMs), which is good for me, I'm not looking for a high RPM racing engine, I want my grunt.
Running that cam, any suggestions on lifters/rockers? I think I could have the heads ported and polished.
So...that cam, port and polish the heads, intake, headers, exhaust, what kinda power output should I expect?
Thanks for the help.

Comp lists it as a stock replacement cam, so that's probably how it will work. I dont know the stock cam specs, so get a degree wheel...
I always thought the 4.0L needed more cam. The A4LD they're paired with has a rather high stall torque converter in it, and could probably make good use of the bigger cam without giving up any noticable low end torque. Of course, if you have a manual transmission that changes everything! Nothing you couldn't work around of course...
I'd either run the stocker or upgrade to the 422, but that's just me!
Lifters, rockers... The stock roller lifters usually dont give people trouble, so I'd stay stock there unless you're having problems with ticking. In that case, replace the offenders. I haven't really figured out a viable option for rockers yet. I have an idea, but at this point that's all it is. It involves adjustable 2.9L rockers. 4.0L's typically wear out the rocker end of the pushrod, and the socket in the rocker. My guess would be that this happens because the pushrod doesn't spin, and a lack of oil. So plan on replacing pushrods and rockers anyway.
I'll know more by spring when I get mine done!
Oh, and to make an accurate power assessment, I would need flow data for the heads. So if you have access to a flow bench, I'm all ears! I've about got my heads ported, so maybe I'll have 'em flow tested when I'm done.
Edit: I see you're running a 3.08 rear end gear ratio? I'd change to the 422 cam, and something like 3.73's. That way you wont miss any low end torque, and you'll accelerate a whole lot faster!

If you don't have to take your truck through DEQ get a comp 422 then some nice ported heads. If you have any ticking these can help along with lifters. http://www.deltacam.com/
Blah...I need to reregister in Grayson county...we got the smog ***** here in Collin...of course, we're like the furthest county from Dallas that still does it.
