I have a stock 1996 f-250 118,000 miles I ordered the edge evolution for It can you gain the power with the stock down pipe? And I don't have a egt gauge, were is the best place to put the probe. Thanks
To get the best out of the programmer, you need to do an exhaust (down pipe / 4" cat-back system) and intake upgrade. You can run it without, but I wouldn't. The best place to mount the probe is in the manifold. Post turbo isn't as accurate, but at least you don't have to worry about metal shavings ruining your turbo.
Dont be afraid to drill and tap you exhaust manifold! Metal shavings are not likely to damage your turbo. I helped (by helped I mean I did it) a friend put gauges on his new duramax and he made me drill and tap it cus he was to scared. I found that running the engine while drilling and tapping it shoots the shavings right out (wear a face shield).
The edge is ok but you will have a smoother running engine with tuning from dp tuner or tony wildman.
i have an evolution and 3" dp to 4" straight pipe. it runs best (smoothest) on 80. i havent had any heat issues. max i've gotten is 1100. i drilled for my EGT probe on the driver side right behind the last cylinder on the botton of the pipe. i drilled it and tapped it and then stuck a shop vac to it. then i idled it and it worked great.
I also havent had any problems with it. Works great, course I can hit 1250 and around 35psi with it too. 3" down pipe makes a nice difference in the egts and a good intake.
