From a dead stop, on acceleration my truck would vibrate for about 20 feet then stop. And at about 70 mph the vibration would be constant. I replaced the drive line carrier bearing today and poof, smooth as glass!!
Also did the muffler delete today. Music to my ears!!!
i have a 01 f350 srw-cc-lb and this will be fine for a little bit but it will come back ford set the carrier to high in the cc-lb trucks so you need to drop the carrier down about 1/2 to 3/4 inch to fix it for good.if not it will come back.it spins your u joint and lossens it up and it all starts over
Nope they are not spinning, tommorrow im going to do something i have not wanted to do but i need to see if its driveshaft related. Im going to drop out the rear driveshaft from the carrier back and put the truck in 4wheel drive and drive with only the front tires moving and see if the vibration is still there. If not then im taking the truck to DTS from them to re balance the driveshafts.
try this...heres how i found mine out pull rear shaft pull u joint caps use tin tap if you no what it is it is tap made of thin steel or tin tap both covers rap it around them oh an 1/16" or maby a little more then put back on truck tighten up and drive see what happens. if it is gone your u joints are sloppy in your yoke
Wait a minute, you had the same vibration??? Ill try this tommorrow, this vibration has been driving me crazy, today i took both my front wheel off and checked all of my brakes, took the cover off the dif and check backlash in the rear end, looked at TC slip to see if that what it was. Its like a bouncing that starts at 45 and goes away at about 65ish 70.
dose it go away if you are steping on the pedal and if so if you are just gliding along kinda coasting dose it come back and if you let off pedal it gets beter but not gone
your u joint is slipping in your yoke if you grab your drive shaft and shake it the same direction as your 8 mil hold downs or caps face it will move back and forth what you can do to fix this is do it the easy way and hit the hold downs with a big hammer on the ends so that they bend down holding the ujoint better or you can get a flat washer (2 that are same size or extreamly close and put them in the yoke with the u joint 1 on each side so that it will fit snugg, (those caps are not suppost to move side to side) then if you have a welder put a couple of taks from the washer to the u joint cap to hold washer in place, that should do the trick. let me no if i lost you any where
I am going to try this tommorrow, as soon as i get home from work. I hope this works! I had to get new hold downs when i replaced the rear ujoints before and since then it hasnt been quite right then this happened and has been getting worse and worse. About 2 weeks ago i was going to use the method of, whatever it is it will break and ill know for sure, but it keeps getting worse and worse and wont break so tommorrow im messin with that. THanks for the tip and where to look, i was about ready to give up on it. Will update. Sorry about the .
Update, went out and shimmed the ujoints strap with shim stock, there is no play in the rear u-joint at all now. Its still vibrating it may have helped 5% of it but its still there. Does anyone know what cracked plantary gears feel like?
Not sure if your truck is lifted or not but I had to shim my center driveline bearing several times before finding a happy medium. I had bad vibration during starts and again at about 55 to 60. As I would step on the pedal, the vibration would drive me nuts. I set the driveline to the angle recommended by the lift and it still vibrated very bad. I played with it adding chims and taking them away and finally the problem is gone.
