This is the answer I got from one of my Flathead resources on the web.
Engine Colors: Ford engines were generally dark blue in 1949 and changed to bronze in late '49 production through 1951. For 1952 and 1953 the Ford engine was either tangerine red or green. The Ford truck engines were red from 1948 through 1951, and then changed to green for 1952-53.
from what i was told the 52-53 was in fact a tangerine green like you said ryan, not sure bout the years before. Never heard of red before tho. Mybe from car engines to truck is the different colors
My 49 is that bronze colour actually my paint on motor aint bad. So thus my 49 is a late 49 Mercury I guess.
I found that on the web on google there is alot of Flahead ford stuff, all those motorbikes are pretty cool. I kinda hope one day I get that courage put a Flattie in a hog.
There is/was a conversion kit to put a Flattie V8 in a Ford 8/9N tractor. It the horse power from 20+ up to the 100 + and raises the fun factor by more than 1,000%.
Dueller if you need a pic. my 49 is a bronze color, since it was rebuilt b authorized Ford rebuilder in 196 It should be pretty accurate. The colour is still good on my heads. The colour on my valve covers must have faded away though... LOL, dang that's not as funny as I thought it would be... anyone? anyone?
My '52 was teal... it has never been rebuilt and below all the grease and rust, it had a hint of teal left. Ironically, the duplicolor "Torq'n Teal" was an exact match. Although that doesn't help for a '51 but you are correct in stating they were dark blue, then bronze/gold or red/orange, then teal (mint green).
My 53 is yellow/orange that one is another story though. Flatheads looked alot better with a aluminium intake and not that bronze, that bronze isn't that nice of a colour when I think about it.
