Question 1986 f150 ECM

Can anyone tell me if the ECM (computer) will work out of a 1987 truck on the 1986 that I have? I looked on the EFI website and all the pins are the same, but the 87 model has more features. Both have 302 engines. I want to try a different computer because I cannot get a ground to my fuel pump relay from the computer. The fuel pump relay & the pumps work fine if I supply a ground. The truck runs fine with the computer that is in it all except the fuel pump system. I have traced the wire from the relay all the way to the computer plug end terminal and the wire checks out fine. This ground also supplies begative to something else down the line from the fuel pump relay, but I haven't noticed anything not working.
Thanks Again for any help,
Mike

Should work fine from what I've learned looking into EEC's The only thing I think would be an issue is the AODE trans but I don't think they came into use until early/mid 90's.
