Fuel pump probems
Hello, I own a 1986 Ford Ranger, with a 2.9L V6, manual trans, and 160,000 miles. Heres the problem. When I turn the key on the pumps do not come on to pressurize. I have no power at the pumps. I have power at one wire on the relay (yellow one). I can jump the pumps by sticking a wire between the yellow and fuel pump and they turn on. I tried to bypass the enertia switch also and no luck. I have ground and power at the relay (the two other wires). I checked all fuses and are all good. I have spark. I USED to jump the pumps by sticking a tester light in the outlet of the TPS and they would jump on, but now it does not happen anymore. I replaced both eec and fuel pump relays. The eec relay does click and the fuel pump relay does not. I have checked all the wires from the fuel pump relay and they are all good. Two days ago it was running fine. The first time I fixed I was working by the coil, and the key happened to be on and they jumped on and worked for a couple of months but quit. I have no power coming out of the eec to the fuel pump relay. I have stuck wires in the back of the eec to the fuel pump relay and it still has not clicked. What is wrong? Any comments or question?
Today, I now have power at one red wire when I turn the key on, and when I ground the relay then, the pumps will come on and will not shut off until I take the connector out of the relay. What could cause that?
