Truck is a 94 FS Bronco with a 351, 2wd. Belongs to a buddy. He has a clunk that sounds and feels like a ton of play in the differential. Local mechanic says the clunk and the noise made upon pulling from a dead stop are another affliction the Bronco is known for. Apparently, the limited slip is still fully functional and the clunk is just something to get used to. Does anyone have any insight as to the validity of this or any info on whether this is really the cause of the clunk?
Crawl underneath with the truck in neutral (parking brake on!) and see how much play there is by trying to rotate the driveshaft. If there is a lot of play, it could be worn spider gears inside the differential.
Maybe it's the slip joint. check out this thread: http://bbs.off-road.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=offroadfordbroncolate&Numb er=776524&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1
