I have a 96 250 4x4 (powerstroke).. & i'v searched the web and custom shops around here trying to figuer out how to rig a front tow hook or cleavis to the drned thing .Dont want to spend $200 on some WARN type front hitch set up .As you may know Ford did not put a factory one on or leave much of an opportunity to bolt on one either.. any suggestions or links would be most appreciated ..I find myself hunting in the Rockies more & more & one of these days I'm gonna need a tug out ..lukily till now I'v been the tugger ..hopefully will not need it but just incase I really dont want to hook a chain to my front shackle..
Orchilins has a tow hook & I thought about bolting/welding it to the 2 inch space between the front shackle & the bumper but its not long enough to reach under the bumper & I cant seem to find one that is.
I've got tow hooks on my 78, I bolted them onto a mount that I then bolted to the front leaf spring suppport, I have some pics in my gallery. I think. If not, I'll post a couple. If your front spring mount is similar, that idea should/may work
On this website in the articles section they describe how to add some tow hooks that mount to the frame by the front bumper and protrude through it. I did it on my 92 and have some crude holes in the bumper to let them through, but the bumper doesnt look that nice anyways and its stock and temporary at the moment.
I notice how you found out that the first place you tried to mount it wasnt strong enough. I like where you mounted yours on the underside of the frame. Mine are on the inside of the bumper mounts and I cut a couple of access holes. You did a very nice job and I would have liked to have done it your way first. Oh well.
Thanks. Yeh, the first way was not a good way. I was told by many, but I am hardheaded so I had to learn the hard way. I wanted to mount it on the side of the frame horn but my bumper would look bad cutting it there for the access holes.
I see now that makes since ..the only diference is mine has front has leaf springs..I was hopeing I could get around it without cutting on the bumper but I guess not
Yeh, I didn't want to have to cut my bumper either, but there was no way around it. Actually I just bought some black trim to wrap around the bumper were I cut it so it will look factory. When I put it on I will take a pic.
Colibert Enterprises use to make front tow hooks for 92-96 F150s and F250s/F350s. I bought a set for my F150 from them on Ebay back in Dec 06. Nicely made--bolt ons.
Contact them and see if there are any left for the F250. They are a trailer towing hitch manufacturer. Google for them.
Go and pick up a pair of chevy tow hooks off a (for sure) early 90's truck. They are a great design; 180* hook so the strap wont fall off easy, hook goes against the frame, and bolts go through the frame to a threaded plate, so it sandwiches the frame for strength, and they are cheep cheep from wreckers. And they are off a Chev, so you KNOW they are meant to be pulled on haha

Isn't there a problem with mounting hooks in front of the crumple zone? I hit the front corner of my truck in a ditch due to ice and compressed it a little just from that. I pulled it back out by hooking onto a tractor and pulling in 4lo so I'm worried pulling someone or being pulled by someone could stretch it out even more.
