I made one out of old class 3 hitch ($10) and reinforced frame and welded brackets to bolt on. Its great for backing stuff into tight places and I have Hoop to fit in receiver as well as any other class 3 item. I rigged up so I use a license plate to cover hole in bumper .It just slide in class 3 hitch. I did have lower below bumper but didn't like look of it.

Isn't there a problem with mounting hooks in front of the crumple zone? I hit the front corner of my truck in a ditch due to ice and compressed it a little just from that. I pulled it back out by hooking onto a tractor and pulling in 4lo so I'm worried pulling someone or being pulled by someone could stretch it out even more.
The problem with mounting behind the crumple zone is that its to far back on the frame and you would end up twisting your front bumper up from the angle of the tow strap/chain/winch cable etc. If your truck is that stuck, then i would look into fish plating the crumple zone and mounting them there. I know when I build my front bumper, there wont be any more crumple zone in the front of my truck.
And when you hit the ditch you weakend the steel in the crumple zone so its not as strong as it was before, which made it pull back fairly easy so you might have a problem with it over pulling later if you decide to pull on something really big, or get so stuck you're only coming out with a tractor or a cat.

Lots of guys on fullsizebronco have it mounted in the same place and have not had a problem. I haven't had a problem yet. If you are worried about it you could put a brace between the frame horns to add some rigidity.

this is prolly the best answer. you can use the receiver hitch for moving and holdin trailers and also you can get a receiver mounted shackle made for pulling. the best thing about this method is it is by far the strongest. you are tying both frame rails together with thick metal creating a very rigid and reliable platform to use to pull with
dont use those crappy bolt on hook you can get from jc whitenty. i have a pille of broken ones out at the shop that i was using before i built my front bumper. stay away from hooks, use either D-rings (the weld on ones, not the 5000lb bolt on ones) or make shackle mounts from 1" plate and get some shackles from a tractor place

I like the Idea of making a hitch to tie the frame rails together and just cut a few holes in my bumper for the hitch and D-rings. That way if I get a winch I will already have a place to mount it and if I don't I have a place to hook up on to anyway.
the problem with hook mounted down there, is that they will get hung up on stuff and actually get you stuck. same thing when people leave drop hitches in the reciever, they get hung up.
