Question Spring Swap ?

Has anyone ever swapped out the girly springs in there Ex with with F-250 SD springs all the way around. And if so what else would I need besides the springs.

Thanks John

I did on my 01 4x4. I went to the dealer and got the springs for a F350. Nothing else needed unless you want to put a bigger block in the rear to make the rear sit higher.

You did all four springs? how was the ride when you were done? Lastly, how much lift did it give the Ex?

All 4. It rides better and I also put new Rancho 9000's shocks on at the same time. I think I got 2 inches out of the front and 1 1/2 inches in the rear....

I got discounts on the springs and paid around 120.00 each for the fronts and 140.00 each for the rears.

Yes, it's a very common upgrade for Excursion owners. It's done to eliminate the inherent wander problem these beasts have.

See my sig for what I added, and the link below for a comprehensive write up.

While I am very happy with the improved steering and handling the spring swap provided, in a few weeks I'll be adding a panhard bar to see if it tightens up the handling more.

Really? You'll be the first that I know of to install a panhard bar. I've thought about why someone hasn't done it it before. Is there a cross member right above the axle that you can bolt it to?

It mounts to a half bracket that bolts to the rear diff cover.

It will look much like this picture....

I autocross with my Lightning, and have planned on this upgrade for awhile. After I did the spring swap on the Excursion, I started wondering if maybe a panhard bar wouldn't help with the lateral stability the way it does with a Lightning. So I checked into it and discovered Develop-Mental Racing (who makes the panhard bars for the Lightning) recently made a panhard bar for Jody Tipton's F250. So I contacted Garrett, the owner of DMR and asked if his F250 panhard would work on my Excursion. After taking some measurements for him, he's reasonably confident the F250 bar would work on the Excursions too.

I guess I'll be the Guinea pig when I put mine on.

Question interference issue

This is great idea, but I wonder if there will be room to add this mod when you have air bags installed. Looks like it might be alittle tight for both! Plwase keep me updated. Quite a few of us are bagged already.

lol..only reason i ask is, as i was laying under the truck trying to figure out a cheaper way of running the tailpipe for dual, i realized that there is hardly any room for one pipe besides two, unless you are lifted at least 3+" but i can't verify more room about that yet.

Is there anything else that needs to be changed, as far as steering parts, ect?

Question

HI is there any aftermarket springs for excursions. I love my x but I'm sick of the riding stiff and bouncy. I put ranchos 9000 but didn,t make the difference I wanted. Any suggestions?
