I have to hand it to some people for being inventive.
I saw an 80-86 full size today with a crank sticking out of the rear of the tailgate. I did not get a chance to talk with the owner but it looked as if it worked.
Bob
PS: Does anyone know of a good reliable source for the tailgate window tracks?
Hey Bob,
If you find out let me know. The motor is burnedout in my '79.I do beleive that it would be more cost effective in the long run. With all the hell my rear window goes through.I have pulled it all down.It looks like you would have to get the crank, and fit it with the drive gear coming off the motor, shim it all out and wham bam thank you Mam.You got a crank on your Bronco.Hmmmm......I wonder if the Blazer crank and window workings would work.
TRY GOING TO FORD AND BUYING THE PARTS NEW THERE BOOKS DONT GO BACK TO 79 BUT YOU CAN USE UP TO AN 86 WITH NO CHANGES WHAT SO EVER I REPLACED THE DRIVE GEARS IN MINE FOR JUST $22.50 US FROM A LOCAL FOR DEALER IN MY 79 BRONCO.
AS COST EFFECTIVE YOUR 79 MOTOR LASTED FOR HOW MANY YEARS BEFORE IT QUIT, THINK ABOUT THAT ONE, AND THE CONVENINCE OF BEING ABLE TO LOWER IT WHILE GOING DOWN THE TRAIL
Let's see. I lower the tailgate window going down the trail so that I can let in:
A: exhaust
B: dust
C: bugs
I understand now. Your into self-abuse.
I wouldn't mind putting a crank in my 87 either. The more you offroad the more you have to service/replace the electrics. Let's go back to the original question about a hand crank. Anyone have a source or idea?
