Any one know by any chance if there is a way to hook up the ipod to the stock ford stereo short of "I-tirp". Don't know if any one has tried it or done it before. Thanks guys!
easiest, and best way, is to get a hard wired FM tuner that plugs into the headphone jack of your ipod. There is too much interference with wireless. Then you need a cradle (so it doesnt fly around) and a charger.
I bought everything to do this with my DJ20. I bought the tuner & car charger cradle (that was going to be wired to power- key on). I had it figured out how all the wires would be hidden and all I would have to do is throw the player in the cradle to use it. Then I came to the realization that all I really listen to in the truck is AM, and when I dont, the 6 discs are enough.
yea unless you get an aftermarket head unit you either need to go wireless or use the old fashioned tape deck method....check into alpine that have some great aftermarket stuff...they run the wire into your glove box so you just plug your ipod in and throw it there so it doesn't fly around then you can control it all on your stereo.
yeah I was just wondering if there was a cheaper way other then buying a new headunit. Oh well, the radio will have to do for now. And empiretc, CD what???? lol Never heard of them that's like records to our generation now lol.
yeah right...tell me that when you have to ride in a truck for 3 hours straight to get to some of these races. The motor sounds good but not that good.
I had a big sub-woofer behind the back seat of my last truck and used it a lot to shake the rear view mirror. This time for some reason I could care less if the radio is on or not.
Funny thing is, if I could have it, I would rather have a CB radio in the dash in the place of the stereo. It's pretty entertaining listening to some of the home bases as I pass through towns. Some sound intellegent, and some sound like "welfare recipients".

I had an Alpine deck from the car I sold and it's super easy to get an adaptor. For sound quality reasons I didn't even consider an RF/wireless unit. They're OK, but not for what I wanted.
If you just want to hook in your ipod, go the wireless route. If you want quality sound, you'll need to put out some cash.

Yeah in my old truck I had a JL 10" sub, alpine head unit, and a alpine 600 watt amp with focal coaxle speakers but I just got bored of it and I left it in the truck and sold it. Besides I rather spend my money on mods for this truck since I plan on keeping it for ever. I was just wondering if there was like a 30 dollar cable or something I could buy. I may try the tape player thing though to get by for now.
Let me tell you about CB radios lol....going down the road I get really bored so we usually mess with all the truckers on there it is halarious. Some think it is funny, others think they can catch you pulling 80k pounds lol. I rigged it up so it can plug into a cigerett (sp) adaptor.
Go the Alpibne route and hard wire it. I have an Alpine 8345 hard wired to a 40gb Nomad with 10,000 songs on it and the sound is better than CD. The FM tranmitters sound like what they are, transmitters. They pick up too much interference and you lose high end sound. I know from experience. I let the salesman at Best Buy talk me into a transmitter and the next day the truck was back at Best Buy having the Alpine and the hardwire set up installed. It sounded like crap with the transmitter and I can't have that as I am way into music, especially while driving.

I did my setup with the RCAs so that I can put my laptop on the console and play movies through the stereo, as well as use my XMRadio tuner, or an ipod... hehehe
I have the Alpine with the Ipod control it is AWESOME. About $240 at Best Buy but IMO well worth it. Better than CD quality (we dont get satellite here in HI). I had an FM Transmitter and it was horrible you had to constantly change the radio stations to get a tune. Which meant spending more time fumbling with my radio tuner and my Transmitter than watching the road. There are others out there that have IPOD controls Alpine is by far the cheapest and easiest to control.
I can't believe you guys let best buy even touch your stuff. They eff up everything here. I do all my own stero stuff even the box for the sub and no I don't just glue 6 pieces of wood together, I do the math for the perfect air space and I hide all the wires and unlike best buy, I solder, and heat shrink my connections where best buy just uses those twist caps and electrical tape. Every person I know that has had there stuff done at best buy got jacked up. I will do the alpine thing when I get the money...I do have a birthday comming up incase any one here wants to donate lol j/k.
The two guys that did mone at the Conroe Texas Best Buy did a great job plus they let me hang out back there and watch. They didn't use any twist caps. You must have a ghetto Best Buy.
