Lightbulb Performance Needs...

My first Ford Truck was a '90 F150 4x4 with the EFI 4.9 and a four
speed. High miles and fuel consumption retired the truck to the farm...
I always liked the six and now I would like to build a highly respectable
torqued-out performance version...
Where to start? I see cams everywhere, flat top pistons, headers,
intakes, chips for EFI, and the list goes on.

How many ways can this be accomplished? Has anyone built a low-
end hauler? What kinds of mods? Maximum bore sizes? Aspiration?
If only I could find a sroker crank!

Any and all input and experience would be appreciated, Thanks!

BTW, and "oh yeah, i got a turbo laying around too..."

I think there is still more to be had with more of the Green stuff. I want roller rockers and do a roller cam conversion some how. I hear Side Draft Webers make a ton of difference also.

if you're looking for a stroker crank, take a look under my past posts, or do a search for col. flashman. there was a recent string discussing the method of getting a stroker crank for the six. its called offset grinding, and its about the only way other than a custom order. make sure you get the right turbo, as the wrong one will not help, and may hurt, or destroy your engine.

Is that estimation or dyno results?

Also, what have you done to your six?

I think you can spend your money more wisely than increasing stroke. The 300 is basically a stroked 240. It's greatest performance deficiency is in the the breathing department. The stock intake and exhaust manifolds are restrictive and so are the ports and valves. If you want to go all out, increasing the valve size, porting and polishing is probably your best starting point. Lots of people have gotten good performance with the stock valves, but the ultimate rpm is limited. The bottom end can take all kinds of top end mods though. An easy route to higher compression is to start with a 240 cylinder head and go to work on it to improve the breathing capacity.

Dual Webers are great, but you have to do head, cam and headers to take advantage of the additional flow that they offer.
