I have a 2003 king ranch super crew 4wd. I bought new 265-70-R17 mud terrian tires for it, but the tires are awefully close to the front mudflaps when I turn. The other day when I was out in a field, I turned and must have hit a bump at the same time or something, but it caught the mudflap and ripped it right off. Is it possible to tighten the torsion bars to raise the front up a little so I don't have that problem again? How would I do that?
Thanks
I don't know about you, but I want to take care of my body and paint condition. I drive through a lot of dirt, gravel, and mud roads.
Would I have to do anything else to the pickup if I crank up the front end?
Is there anything I have to worry about?
You have to worry about getting an alignment if you adjust it a lot, and increasing the wear on your CV shafts. Also your tire will still rub, it will just take more pressure to compress the suspension to get it to that point
your tires are stock size and should not hit the flaps. you can crank up the torsion bars by laying under the truck in the front seat area and screwing the adjusting screw into the cam lobe further. one each side. this however is used to level the truck and only raises it 1 to 1.5 inches. this is not a lift kit. it does change the geometry slightly and an alignment might be off slightly if it was close to the limit to start with. mine was in spec to start with, and required no adjustment after the raise.
I don't know what the deal is with this pickup because the one I sold was a 2000 F150 4wd with BFG All-terrian 285-70-17's on it with no problem. I now only have 265-70-17's on my new pickup and it hits the mudflaps when turning. Maybe I need different mudflaps.
