Well, I located the EGR, even tried to take it off, but bolts to the manifold were stuck. So, I decided before I get to rough with it....can I clean/repair the valve, if I can get it off? Can I just replace the circular diaphram? Other fixes?
I didn't get to try clearing the code because the code reader was checked out from my local auto parts store. I will try that in a couple days.
Well I have taken them off and successfully cleaned them--just not on this SUV so I can't be sure. However there isn't too much you can do unless you can get it off. Once off you can clean the engine ports and the valve. I think the valve has to be replaced as a unit and they can be expensive. But if you can afford it and you are going to keep the truck for sometime you might just want to buy a new EGR valve. Same is true of the IAC you cleaned---generally it's short term fix and probably will fail again soon. The main reason I clean these things is to conclusively prove that's the fault--once I prove that cleaning it had a positive effect then I shop around for a good price and replace it because I don't want to have to deal with it again in a yr or whenever. Just my way of doing things I guess. To each his own!
Just to update all those who helped me out.....checked the CEL codes this weekend and it was a 401...something to do with Exhaust Gas Return Low flow. I reset the code and ....IT FIXED IT!! Code did not return.
I want to thank everyone again for the help both with the idle problem and this CEL issue. Truck is going on the market and I wanted to clean up these minor probelms before selling. THANKS!!!!
No kidding I had this trbl fixed in 30min, thanks to this thread.
I just drove the truck last night & when I went to start it tonight it continued to die just as discribed previouslly.
Scratched my head & wondered if it was was a weak battery trbl, searched this forum, pulled the truck in the back, removed the IAC, shot up to the parts store $50 bucks, re-installed new part & started..
