Steering damper is really to just dampen blows from pot holes really wont solve wondering problem, you can do a search on here regarding tightening the steering box. I dont know year you have and how long youve had the Ex, weather or not the problem is getting worse with time, or its always been there since youve had the truck, is it lifted. The Ex does have a wander problem to begin with. Called rear steer, but this usually occurs when you hit a bump and the vehicle goes to lean one way or the other. The Ex is so top heavy that the tail end wanders around. I guess you could say this is a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Worn/loose ball joints will do the same thing. What is your X, a 2 or 4 wheel drive?

Smile wandering X

Thxs for the input! I read a few post and checked to insure my front hubs were in "Auto" and they were! I have a 02 4x4 7.3 with around 95K miles. Had a set of BF Goodrich T/A's 285 75 16 which got close to 48K miles on it so bought same set new. Did not notice the "wandering" till a little later and wife drove it as well ( This is MY TOY!) she mention felt like she was fighting the steering to keep straight. X is not lifted completely stock. Got about 1" till could not park in garaged which is why I am leaving it stock! Has MX6 shocks from 4wheel Parts.
Gonna jack up and check U joints per other posting info. I really do not want to mess around with the steering box adjustments!
Thxs all ya guys for the forum inputs!

Thxs for input. Would u say your air bag setup helps with the rear wandering loaded as well as unloaded?

The air bags did help somewhat to the rear wander. I only keep 10 psi in the bags when unloaded. I also kept the air lines seperate to each bags so the air would not transfer from one bag to the other when in a turn. A sway bar would also big a big help, which I am still considering

Mikwar - dont think that steering box adjust is all that difficult. I just did it Sunday afternoon, with the help of my 13 year old kid (I could not reach in to hold adjuster screw thing and lock nut at same time). I spent more time looking for how to reach it, and finding my flashlight than I did actually adjusting it. Literally, less than 5 minutes! Loosen 1 lock nut, turn allen head (in my case 1/2 to 5/8 turn is all). Re-tighten lock nut. Piece of cake and well worth it. If you go in small increments, and test drive, i dont think much risk, if any, of over tightening. Significant improvement in ability to respond to the wander tendancy. To me, the truck as that inherent wander tendancy, combined with the sloppy steering - so you cant respond to the wander well, which makes the wander feel that much worse. Correct your ability to respond to the wander - you are half way there.

I will soon (tonight maybe) be installing some Timbrens (more for sake of my towing need), and once it arrives, a Hellwig rear sway bar. From what i read here, the rear sway bar helps quite a bit with the wander as well. Will control the vehicle pitching from side to side on bumps etc. or in cornering. I suspect the air bags or Timbrens will help as well, as your effective spring rate is increased - so less suspension motion going on.
