I need to improve the gas mileage on my 95 Ford EB 5.8ltr winsor bronco, the gas is at 2.15 a gallon. I know that most people will tell me k.n filter and flowmasters but what is the next step after that?
I have been considering a turbo or a supercharger I would suspect that will make my mileage better do to less useage of the peddle. But how much dose that cost and what is the diffrence between a supercharger and a turbo which will do best on my 351 5.8ltr winsor 3.55 gears automatic trans?
I need power and I need less stops to the gas station I drive a lot and 80 bucks a week on gas is not my style...
What about injectors will that make my gas mileage do better or whorse?
What ever you got on your mind that will give me power but won't more so runin my gas mileage.
Damn gas engines err why did I buy a gas one in the first place DIESEl is what I need....
I would check into getting a Jacobs Electronic Ignition. They are a little bit on the pricey side (like $350-$400), but I put one on my Tahoe and it boosted my mileage by almost 2 mpg. I just got one for my Bronco, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I'll let you know after I do!
LAST EDITED ON 01-Jun-01 AT 10:55 PM (EST)[p]If you adda a supercharger, your mpg will increase, but only if you have a feather foot. Lets face it anyone who adds a supercharger doesn't have a feather foot. Plus you are looking at $4,000 range for one, so lets say you get 2 mpg out of it, the supercharger will never pay itself off. Plus engines with superchargers do not last as long. Just my 2 cents though. A turbo charger works only in the upper RPM range, meaning that out would have to run at least 3,000 RPM before it would kick in where as a supercharger works throughout the RPM's. Having a superharger would be cool though......
A 5.8 that gets 15 on the highway is doing pretty good since my 5.0 couldnt do that...All I can say is do a good tune-up if you havent done it and be happy with the mileage you have...lol

but my bronco is getting 10 in city and 15 on freeway.
the ignition I am for. I am goin to look around about that.
I am putting dual exhasut on it.
I am putting a k/n filter on it.
I was thinking better injectors.
you guys know any brands for Injectors or ignition. I know jacobs.
I am already short on power.
If I have anyless I won't make it over the hill with my boat.
If I time it right I can keep her going 35- 40 floored up but if I mess up 20 on the floor. This is the steepest hill around here. I don't even think I could walk up it.
I am looking for more hp and better mileage
I know it can be done.
Just it is what mods to get.
Another guy just asked about putting duals on and you said it couldn't be done and would look dorky. Well, how are you planning to put duals on yours if it can't be done?
My 5 litre 5spd was getting around 11.5 mpg, with me being the lead foot that I am, I needed mpg. I went with a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust, K&N filtercharger, and a set of March underdrive pulleys. Total cost was around $500 dollars. Now I get about 14 city and about 18 on mountain highways, not to mention the added performance.
I know how you feel. My 78 Bronco gets 8 mpg. EIGHT! At 2.00+ this is really killing the old bank account. I was surfing the net looking for something to do about it and found this device called Fuel Atomizer 2000. They claim anywhere from 30 to 80 percent increase in mileage. I checked the BBB and other similar consumer orgs to see if there were complaints filed against them. None. I called their so called "distributors" who supposedly use them on their own vehicles and they swear this thing really works without damage to the engine. Even saw test results for a truck just like mine that went from 8 mpg to 14 mpg. 75 percent increase. I bought one for 100 bucks. Should arrive thursday or friday. I really hope it works. I'll let you know what happens. Also have an MSD 6T and Blaster Coil. That seemed to help a tiny bit but the added power gets you all excited and makes you gun it around town.
Here is how to get better gas mileage out of a 5.8 Bronco. First, get the atomizer and every gadget in the JC Whitney catalog that says it will boost gas mileage. Then, crimp the fuel line so it about 90% smaller than it was. Put mothballs in the gas tank at every fillup. Finally, rig up a vaccuum cleaner to run backwards, attach it to the air intake with a hose, and turn it on while your driving for a cheap supercharger effect. Seriously though, you have a 5.8 Bronco just like me, you are always going to be feeding it gas no matter what you do. Any large amount of money that you spend trying to get 1 or 2 mpg more(which is all you will ever get) will negate the savings in money spent on fuel. It's a big, heavy vehicle with a big engine. Just keep it tuned up properly and that's about all you can do (and keep your foot out of the gas pedal).
