Gas Mileage

The EPA report on the Atomizer says it shows no increase in mileage. The EPA has tested 98 different supposed mileage increasers and there's not one magic bullet in the whole log.
Read that again: NOT ONE. The one's that showed a very minor improvement did so by leaning the air mixture and limiting how much gas you can give. Leaning the air mixture can cause severe engine damage and limiting gas limits accelerating, top end, horse-power. In effect, you're turning your monsterously powerful V8 into a 4 cylinder that still has to haul the boat anchor we call a truck. Return it while you still have a chance!

Take what IKnowItAll says with a grain of salt. He has the literacy of a 3rd grader and was kicked of this and other sites for inappropriate behavior. The very fact that he calls himself a know-it-all proves that he doesn't.

That guy is an Idiot.

I am putting dual exhaust on it. I already went to my buddy and hes doing it for 150 bucks. I have seen duals on a bronco before.

So don't give me some ##### like it cannot be done. I am not going to get huge ##### ones that make so much noise you cannot speak.

Some people are dumb. Just ignore them.

Hey, I wanted to know what the turnout was with the Fuel Atomizer 2000. I have heard so many different oppinions about it, but most have been negative. I thought I'd ask someone who has actually tried it and give the product a chance. So please post the results that you obtained after installing it. Thanks in advance.

Gas Mileage

I had a '78 Bronco (400M) at one time and learned not to use "mileage" and "Bronco" in the same paragraph!!

After suffering through withdrawal pain for selling the '78 I finally stumbled across a beautiful '96 Eddie Bauer with the 5.8 liter and a set of 3.55 gears in the rearend. So far I've put 30,000 miles on it in a little less than a year and I'm tickled pink with the gas mileage. My darling wife and I have a mountain retreat just outside of Dillsboro, NC and live in Tallahassee, FL. We go up to NC as often as we can - which is a one-way trip of 400 to 435 miles (depending on if we go around or through Atlanta). My mileage on the road is between 17 and 19 mpg and around town it runs 14 to 16 mpg. The cumlative mileage so far this year is 15.9 mpg.

Go with the suggestions about keeping a well tuned engine and check out things like your alternator and battery. My mileage was going down last month and then I had a battery failure while on a trip to Birmingham, AL. After replacement my mileage is right back up to snuff.

Go Luck and DON'T get rid of that Bronco... you'll regret it as soon the transaction is complete.

15!!!!!!!!!! dang. my 89 with the inline 6 only gets 13.

Is your truck paid for? I keep telling myself (every week as I stand at the pump) that $200 a month in fuel is cheeper than $100 a month for fuel and $500 for a car payment.

Clean the injectors and a tune up (often) or swap the 5.8 for a 460cid. your MPG will go down 1 or 2, but the boat will fly and the truck will sound good.

Just wanted to add. My 97 F-250 HD turbo diesel w/3.55 gets 22mpg HW and 18 pulling 12,000 pounds.
The bronco is fun to drive. mine has 310,000 miles
The 250 @ 35,000 miles takes the toy's to the lake or a back hoe to a side job.

Don't get rid of the Bronco. buy a bigger boat, tell the wife you need a f-350 crew cab turbo diesel to pull it. Take the Bronco to the back 40 and go camping :-)

About how much were the pullies? I already have the same set up you do without the pullies. Do they have a website? An dare they worth it?

at the risk of making some of you sick, my 92 E.B. 5.0 averaged between 17 and 19mpg on a recent trip to oregon from southern california. and that is with 170,000 miles on the clock. the only mods are a 3in flowmaster exhaust, k&n, good tune, 31x10.50 tires with the speedo calibrated accordingly. however in city driving with i get about 13. If this motor ever wears out( haven't replaced anything on the drivetrain yet) i want to put a roller cam and lifters in and underdrive pullies and see what that does for my mileage. maybe over 20, in a v-8 bronco, that would be some cool bragging rights.

That's true, you would have "the rights" for a while!! Have you priced a "flow-thru" catalyic converter to go along with your other modifications? I'm planning on something similar to what you've done... soon.

My suggestion is possibly you might need a new carborator, but that's only my suggestion. I was having major problems like you except that I was getting like 11 mpg on highway and 8 in the city. My dad just bought a new carb for my Ford 85 red bronco and I am getting well over 16 mpg its crazy, but also check your fumes first.

1995 Broncos are Fuel Injected, not carbureted. My 1994 EB with the 5.8 litre is currenty getting 16-18 mpg around town. How you say? Well, I am not quite sure. I blew out the transmission pressure circuit in the PCM, and ended up replacing the dang thing. Well, Ford doesn't sell a "new" PCM for that year, instead they will only sell you a newer, updated version. So after replacing the PCM, I went to fill up with gas and was expecting the usual 14 mpg, but I actually made 18 mpg! I think that Ford reprogrammed the fuel curve so that unless you really get on the throttle, it uses less gas. It at first seemed as if there was a loss in power, until I hammered the pedal to the floor and took off. I also have a K&N installed and a set of MSD Super Conductor wires.

Hey Guys,

If you put larger injectors in your truck without doing some other extreme engine mods to make use of the extra gas your truck will run rich and waste gas.

fast_eddy,

A while back you posted a message that you were going to change the ignition system on your Bronco to an aftermarket (Jacobs, MSD, etc.). Have you done it yet? What is your opinion on improvements?

It's time for a tune-up for my '96 and I'm thinking about taking a bigger step with the ignition system.

Thanks for the information.

Richard

Richard...I'm in ole Tally as well and I get around 11 in town. Now, I'm 16 and have a heavy foot, but I cant afford my car payment and hundreds in gas. Is there anything that is resonably priced that will help? How much am I looking at for a Flowmaster or K&N filter? How much help would these be? By the way, I'm running around in a '93 green and tan EB in case you spot me around town. Thanks for your help.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Mar-02 AT 10:20 PM (EST)]G'day, I've been looking at a product available here in Australia that claims increased fuel economy and power.
go to www.hicloneqld.com. It appears to have some merit.

Cheers
Dale
