Ugly? I went and test drove one today, I liked the front end looks and the interior as well. The side of the truck was just ok. It drove far better in every respect than my current 2003 supercrew. They also have more options than I was able to find on a F150. I personally will be buying one of these next year unless Ford can come up with something more than they have now.
My current truck is my 4th Ford truck, I drive them hard and have had very very little in the way of problems with any of them, so I wouldn't be changing to Toyota because of bad experience, I would be changing because I feel the have a more diserable product to me.
I see them selling like crazy!
They're new
They have the power numbers, and
They will last
Look how many people have chevys.....
Just as many that have fords, but the only reason they buy the chevy is b/c it rides smooth..... now chevy guys will go for these tundras too.
Good point but the largest F-Series engine is the 6.8L V10 which only puts out 362 HP, The only thing i think ford should do to compete is to put a better gear ratio in the F150 and try to get more HP out of the 5.4Ls
I think that just the new 6 speed will help a lot. More gears are long overdue. Combine that with 4.10 gears and you'd be set.
Now up the 5.4 to around 400 ft/lbs with a touch more HP (325-350) and you'd have it made.
Oh and for god's sake don't add anymore weight to the 1/2 tons!
With the price difference, I don't expect many farmers, contractors, fleets and so on to go for the Tundra.
You're not getting it..........Toyota doesn't care about loss leader work or fleet sales.
They only can make 200,000 of them.....study the pricing;
Huge gap between stripper Tundras and Ford/GM's
As you start loading 'em up, the price gap narrows (Ford/GM's will still always be cheaper because Toy won't have to discount or offer incentives for awhile.)
Another example of this is when GM stopped whoring out Tahoes for police work a few years back.....too much production was being eaten up for low profit fleet sales which was taking away from the fully loaded money makers.
They will sell out the first year or two......Farmers/contractors or not.

Stopped by today and looked at one.......
Personal notes:
I kind of like the lines of the profile.
The SHORT hood/front end remind me of a Pug (breed of dog)
Go ahead and buy your Toyota truck, and when Ford and Chevy are gone, you will read on the new TTE board about how expensive parts are for your trucks. Toyota will be the only supplier of needed parts, and can charge what ever they want, because there is no more competition. Yeah, I know, Toyotas don't require any replacement parts. Nothing goes wrong with a Toyota truck. I have owned Ford and Chevy trucks for alot of years, and currently own an 06 F350 Super Duty dually, and an 06 1500 Silverado with the 6.5 foot bed. They both do their jobs well. My last Chevy truck, a 3500, went 165,000 miles on the engine. I did replace the trans at about 120,000 miles of hard use. It had a 454 in it. I replaced it with the Ford Super Duty, and I really like it. The F350 has huge brakes on it, and it can stop like no other truck I have had in the 1 ton range. My Chevy does my home use, and my Super Duty has a utility body on it, and is my work truck. Love them both.
I'm not going to get into another Toyota vs the world pissing match, but I don't see OEM Toyota parts being any cheaper than OEM Ford parts.
Considering my head gaskets for my 2000 5.4 cost 157.68 EACH! Plus a laundry list of other parts/gaskets that I needed to the total of around 900 for a head gasket repair.
Mechanic that I know personally said the Fel-pro gaskets were the same as the original OEM ones with the flaws, so Ford is the only place to get the new updated ones that don't suck.
Ford has never been built for the ride, that has been the complaint for years, they have been built for work. This is why they out sell the other brands. I have several friends that own a cement bussiness and are diehard GM, their "work" trucks are all Fords. Their play trucks are chevys. If you are looking for a play truck with all of the options, then buy the toyota, if you are looking for a work truck, then buy a Ford. I have not personally drove one or even seen one up close, but I do know that when I do buy a truck, it will be a Ford.
The Tundra, and even the T100, has been considered a full size pickup since it came out a few years ago.
I don't know anyone who considered them a full sized truck. I had a T-100 and it was very similar in size to the Dakota I had before that. I drove a friend's older Tundra a few months ago and it looked and felt the same as the T-100 except for the V8 engine.
Even Toyota admits that the now finally have a full sized truck. They just didn't admit it previously.
"capacity" vs. "ability" - my 5.4 barely adequately tows my 5k lb boat, 10k would kill it. I tow in Colorado, up 6% grades at 10k feet, the 5.4 absolutely struggles. I have no doubt the Toyota 5.7 6spd 4.30 rearend would tow it like a beast, and save me from having to buy a 3/4 ton truck for something I tow 10 times a year. A 1/2 ton is much more livable as a daily driver, and then add towing "ability", and you've got a winner.
