I have a 76 f-250 that I would like to try to do some things to make it unique One thought I had was to put a dash out of a 94-96 but dont know if its possible any thoughts or additional ideas would be appreciated
Don't know about the dash; anythings possible. Would take some skillful shaping and fitting I would think. Getting new age gauges to work with old tech might be a nightmare too. Just remember something is only impossible till its done. How about a new Ford diesel engine in your f-250? Or maybe suicide doors? Or hinging your tailgate at the side instead of the bottom? Never ask for ideas unless you are willing to hear crazy ones.
Nothing is impossible.....However, some things would almost be impossible or at least more time, effort, and money than it's worth. Take a look at some of the galleries here on these old trucks. Some of the members have really made their trucks custom. Good Luck in whatever you do.
Man the stock dash is so cool, why would you want to get rid of it? That is one of the great things about having an old truck, in a way it is custom already! How many people have a super nice 76 Ford truck they use as a DD. You already have a truck that is different. I can drive down the road in my 79 F350 Super Cab 4x4 and people comment on the truck all the time, I hear "Now that is a real truck!" a lot. Guys who really know Ford trucks will stop dead in their tracks and stare! even hold up traffic hehe.
You have a jewel in your 76, I would make it look stock with some hidden suprises if you just have to cut it up. A diesel would be great, upgraded electrical componets, Manual OD, suspention upgrade, SFI, stock looking HID lights.....
It will only get harder and harder to find an unmolested 70's truck in the future. If I was to do anything like what you are thinking about it would be to make a baja race truck with a custom aluminum dash. Other than that the fact that your truck is stock looking is the coolest thing you could ever do to it. I remember seeing the rolling abortions that show truckers made out of late 70's Fords in the 1980's and 90's. Dripping slime paint, 16 shocks with neon colored boots, shaving all the crome accents, 12 inch lifts with no travel, neon painted leaf springs, and 12 off road lights mounted on the roof! It ruined the look of an otherwise classic truck.
If you want to be diffenent make it look like it did on the show room floor (with big tires!).
The simplest and most rewarding "mod" I did to my truck was to replace the seat. I believe anything right up to '96 will bolt right in, look awesome and way more comfortable!
Now if you could figure out something to improve the door panels.........
In anycase, it's your truck, do what feels right for you.
Good luck in finding a "cummings" to put in your truck. I hear they are real rare and hard to find. I have the more common Cummins that is going in my truck as we speak.
