EGT gauge and factory warranty?

With all the talk about warranties and "modifications", can anyone, maybe a real Ford tech, tell me if I add a thermocouple to the exhaust manifold for a EGT gauge will it affect my warranty? Does Ford recommend any spot on the exhaust manifold to do so. I can see if my turbo goes out (i have an 06 with 5000 miles) they "could" say it was caused by shavings due to the thermocouple install, right? Especially if I do it myself or have an non-Ford garage to it.

Ford techs, do Ford dealers install aftermarket EGT gauges and keep warranties intact? I thought that the new 6.4s have an egt gauge now, just curious where the sensor is.

It seems when I talked to my dealer, it was "assumed" that I was going to install a chip or programmer, therefore the need for an EGT gauge. I may go with a tuner later, but just want to keep track of EGTs while pullying my 5th wheel.

I am a ford diesel tech and see no reason why there would be an issue about warranty. The '08's we have gotten in do not have an EGT factory guage. Unless it is an option it is a myth I would guess. Just drill it and be done w/ it. The only thing is that we( a tech) may see the probe doing a warranty job and assume that you have a chip and just check the PCM for evidence of a chip or check for KAM codes. other than that it has nothing to do w/ any warranty issues. Also the turbos' do not go bad due to shavings, they get rusted and coked up and the vanes stick..

is the best place to drill on the manifold for the egt probe on the drivers side farthest back towards the rear of the truck? on the bend or on a flat spot? does it matter?

There are pictures posted in various places of probe installs, but drivers side back --flatest spot you can find. Leave the truck running to blow out the "big" chunks as you drill and BE Careful it'll be hot.
