No Muffler, straight pipe.

Ive got an 01 7.3 and use to browse the forum alot when I first bought it, but havent been here in a while. I got bored an decided to read the first 10-20 pages of the PSD forum and came across a thread someone had posted talking about taking out their muffler completely. I know this opens up the exhaust and I know it reduces back pressure. I would assume it would give you better fuel economy and a few extra ponys?? I noticed the other day that my muffler is starting to get a small rust hole in it so I am thinking about doing this. I know from experience that some engines need back pressure and with too little it can mess up the rings or cause other damage. Does anyone know if the side effects of having no muffler with the 7.3. What are the risks? Thanks in advance....

Take it out for sure, its not going to hurt anything and will sound alot better to. Alot of people on this forum are running 5 inch straight pipes so you would have absolutly nothin to worry about.

Also do the foil delete mod. I noticed the turbo quite a bit more after doing it.

I didn't go with the staight pipe but it might as well be. I've got the Banks muffler with a 4" all the way to the tail where a 5" takes it out. I also put the 3.5 on the down tube from the turbo to help with the waste exhaust. The dash mount gage lets me know what the temps and the boost numbers are. The noise level did go up slightly but not bad.

I had a stock exhaust, then went to 4" MBRP with muffler, the sound was great. And then i took the system off one day, and i ran the truck with just the downpipe to get the fumes out of the cab. The sound was amazing, and the "turbine whine" was amazing. I then ran straight pipe, and now i have straight piped 6" stacks

I love the stacks. I just wish I could keep my toolbox and still put in the stacks. How did you connect the stacks? I've seen one with a "flex tube" that connects them to the regular exhaust.
