I tested my glow plugs yesterday, after about a month of hard starts in the cold, and discovered only one that did not fit within the ohm settings. I have been waiting till the WTS light went off and I would have to crank 3 to 4 times b4 start. I have (after reading this fantastic board) started waiting about 30 to 45 secs and it seems to start the first time. Could something else be going on or have I been impatient and not given the plugs long enough to warm up?
Do I need to replace the glow plugs or check the GP relay? I would not think that one plug would cause the hard staring.
If it starts good after waiting past the WTS light goes off, your GP's and GPR are good.
Just be patient, the WTS light goes off while the GP's are still 'burning'. The GP's will stay on for 120 seconds when it's very cold. After start-up, Watch your battery/volt meter, when it makes a big swing to the right the GP's just cycled off.

A while back I was having a hard time with my 1997 starting..... I tested the glow plugs and found 1 bad one. Replaced all 8 and it started like a champ. Pretty easy to replace.
