I just got through reading a bunch of threads and looking at gallery pics...
have a question that I think I know the answer to but since its my first full size truck, here goes.If I go to put my leaf springs above my axle(72 f100/302)
will I NEED a notch or any frame mods? I know I'll have to get spring perches(?)and longer u-bolts.I'm not looking for hella low just level with the front
all you have to do is take the bolt out of the front of the leafspring perch and roll the rear end over to the top of the leaf spring, you will have to get new axle pads(i think you can go to a trailer supply store and buy them), or cut off the old ones and weld them to the bottom of the axle. you may want to install a lowering block between the rear axle and the leaf spring depending on how low you want to go. you will need to notch the frame, but you can buy prefab. notches, or just make your own. you don't need to worry about new shackles or leaf spring perches... all you are doing is moving the rear axle up a few inches. the spring rates will remain the same, and all the geometry is going to remain the same. my truck(68 f100) rides the same now as it did stock in the rear. feel free to look at my gallery. although i did cut my leaf spring mounts off and move them up a few inches, but i was going for the most extreme case of lowering. i hope this helps. -tgowers
without blocks I'll still need a notch, not a big one tho right?
the height would be equal to what I raised the top of the axle tube is what I'm figuring
