I just had the light on my odometer/compass/temp guage go out. I have a 2004 XLT so the diplay is in the lower right hand corner of the instrument panel. Does anyone know if this display is backlit? Is there a light behind the display that illuminates it, or is the light an integral part of the display? The black LCD numbers will show up during the day, but cannot be seen at night with the rest of the dash lights.
Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this before I stand on my head to check it out myself . BTW the truck just eclipsed the 37k mark, so no more warranty.
You should complain to your local service department. I know mine would bend to allow for something like this just over the warranty period (because a few dollars now might equal a new truck in the future). Past that, I dont have much else to help you.
I am not sure you are following me Doogie (by the way, are you an M.D.?) As in my initial post the screen works (black LCD numbers and letters are visible), but it cannot be seen at night with the rest of the dash lights. I would guess that it is backlit with a green bulb, but I am not sure if that is the case, or is the green light built into the odo/compass/temp display itself. I will call the dealership tomorrow to find out if they intend to honor it even though I am at 37k miles. If not, I will have to inspect it a little closer. Thanks for the replies guys, if anyone else has any ideas please post them.
My truck is 200 miles away so I have to do this from memory. Isn't there a page in the owners manual that lists what bulbs are used at various points in the truck? I'd check there to see if something is listed for that app. There is the same thing for fuses.
