I recently bought a Procomp 6.5 inch lift and tires from 4wheel parts. The sales guy on the phone told me that the recommended tire size for the kit is 35/12.5, which I found out later was wrong, it is 37's. I was running a 16.5 inch wheel at the time, so he says to go with the Super Swamper Thornbird. I told him I don't want a bias ply tire, but he says this is the only one that will fit. Well, long story short, the stuff comes in, and I install the lift and have the tires put on. 80 miles later the sidewalls of the thornbirds are developing huge cracks, so I call 4 wheel parts and the say to call interco on monday and that I will have to work the warranty out with them. Well I can't be without a truck for the week+ that it will probably take to settle this, so I went to the Tire shop and bought new 17 inch rims and 37/13.5/17 Toyo Open Country M/T's. I can't believe 4 wheel parts refuses to work with me on this issue. Anyone else have problems with them? Is this typical procedure for tire warranty claims? Pictures to come monday when I can wash the truck.
Your complaint's are typical of the service from 4wheelparts. Of all the people I've known that have purchased from them,(7-8 people personally), only one was ever satisfied. And yes, when you buy tires mail order, that's the chance you take. You will more than likely have to fight it out w/ Interco. And they will probably just pro-rate them even though the mileage is so low. Don't expect to get all your $$$ back for the tires. But keep us posted. Perhaps your experience will help somebody else make the right decision.
I only buy stuff from them that are commodities, where I can accept the outcome regardless. Stuff like bushings and Warn winch parts that I install.
For 8 months I was a contractor at a company right down the street from their Hayward CA facility, where they did lifts and tires on brand-new trucks for dealerships. Those guys beat the living holy hell out of those trucks driving them in the neighborhood. All the abuse I've done to every vehicle I've ever owned or rented in my 48 years doesn't add up to what I witnessed being done to factory-new trucks. These trucks come in on carriers, and leave on carriers, but what happens in between was something else.
When I see someone driving a modified truck that I know they bought already completed from a dealer or someplace like 4 Wheel Parts, I feel sorry for them.
I haven't had any majorly bad experiences out of them, of course I always order the smaller stuff. Makes me glad I didn't go with them for my tires and rims now.
(correction) Thornbird looks awesome, but everyone I have ever talked to that had them stated that they will wear funny after about 15000 miles. And even after doing an alignment, they don't track straight.
I also find it funny as hell that 4 wheel parts told you 35", even when their website and Pro Comp state 37"s. Of course I'm not surprised since they told me I couldn't fit 35"s under my leveling kit. Too bad for them I have personally seen it done already.
Couple small pieces of advice. Next time check with the manufacturer, not the dealer. 2nd, go to www.carolinaclassictrucks.com for Interco tires. They'll beat even 4 Wheel Parts deals.
When you get a hold of Interco, try to talk to the owner. I ended talking to him when I went and ordered one of their "Blemished" tires (which I'm still trying to find the blemish)
He seemed like a really cool guy, and gave me on a hell of a deal (turns out I paid about $30 less in shipping)

Reason: Drunken stupor corrected
Not surprised with your experience. There's only one guy at our local store that I will even deal with. I got my edge and dual stabilizer there and never had so many issues. They forgot to order the stabilizer, convinced me of a cheap procomp POS. I raised a fuss atthe store and had the manager call me later that afternoon to apologize, he said he knew of the deal I was told and of my order and said it was their fault it wasnt handled correctly, they reordered and gave me 20% off. There is still nothing that fizes a first impression. They are notsomeone I would recommend to a friend.
P.S. I run the same 37" Toyo Open Land MTs in the summer on my F250. I love the tires, currently I have 37" BFG ATs.
You can sometimes get good deals at 4WP, but their service and knowledge suck. And based on my experience with that service, as well as my experience with their proprietary brands (ProComp), I would never put any of it on my own vehicle.

When did Thornbirds become radials? I've been using them on my rockcrawler for years and they've always been bias. I believe only the TrXus, TSL Radial, and SSR are radial, the rest are bias.
Thornbird is a bias-ply and they suck in the mud! My buddy would always get stuck even with a limited slip. I love Interco tires but those look great but just don’t measure up in the mud. It only makes sense that 4WP would recommend them.

i had an add a lift springs added to my 1995 f350 at their local shop, then i ordered some 35"x14.5" ssr's with weld wheels and told them to put it on, they swore up and down that they won't fit on my truck with just a 2" lift up front.
so, after a debate about them putting my tires on for me, they finally did and guess what? they fit just fine!
and all i got from them was...a "jee golly"! "didn't think them things would of fit"

And you know, their company still swears that 35"s won't fit under there with just a leveling kit. I heard it all when I called and talked to them about the Skyjacker kit. That was about 5 months ago.

Wow, that's interesting to know. Who would have thought a place like that would abuse vehicles they are supposed to be modifying to make better. They need to take a look at their workers.
Thanks for all the replies, guys! I never knew they had such a bad reputation. I can't say anything bad about the Procomp lift kit yet, it seems ok. I will post on what happens tomorrow when I talk to Interco.
