My 2001 F250 4x4 6 speed's EGt's are still high after the following work, I went and replaced the clutch, both uppipes, installed a WW, removed the EBPV, took all the IC boots off, clean them, and fixed all the small leaks, removed the AIH, replaced the two orange IC boots off the intake. I am out of ideas. My truck is a 6 speed, when I am on the highway 60-70mph my EGT's are about 700-750 degrees. If I WOT they will climb to 1100 degrees empty. I put the factory air box back on after reading about the K&N sucking a lot of dirt thru the filter. Will the cold Air intake lower the EGT's? I need help on this. Any other Ideas? Thanks.
Here in Colorado at high altitude I see 700º at 75mph with 4" turbo back and aFe stage 1. When you say staight exhaust do you mean stock with muffler deleted? If so, you need bigger exhaust. Bigger exhaust & cold air intake = lower egt's.
I found a 4 inch kit but the first 8-12 inches of the kit coming of the turbo is factory sized, is this a good idea or do you want it to be a 4 inch pipe off the turbo?
Also I don't see anything about a chip or tuner in your sig. Are you still running on stock programming?
The only thing off the top of my head right now is your wastegate. It may need to be tightened down a bit. A loose wastegate will open prematurely causing higher EGT's. In a roundabout way, it acts as a controlled exhaust leak when working properly.
Also intake and bigger exhaust does help with lowering temps. Altitude can also play a factor in your EGT's. Higher altitude results in higher temps.
Yes I do have a programmer, Hyperpac. currently I am running on stock, if I turn up the chip it raises the EGt's about 75degrees. WOT going from 50 to 80 in 6th gear my EGT's will see 11-1150 degrees.
I currently have a 30 ft 9000K camper my EGT's are always high, we live in the mountains of VA. going up a hill I never can hold WOT, my EGT's would climb over 1300 so I would have to back off, this is stock or stage 1,2,3 on the programmer. now don't get me wrong, stage 2 and 3 of the programmer will climb much much faster. This is when towing my current fifth wheel. We just order a new 36 ft 12500K fifth wheel and I am worried about pulling it with the hills around here. I hear of other people never having a problem with EGT's with just as heavy of a load. I just want to get to the bottom of this problem. Thanks for your quick replys
I read that you put the factory air box back on. Not sure exactly what you had before (was the K&N setup and open type filter?) but I do know that when I switched from my factory air box to the AFE my EGT's dropped about 150* when doing 70 at 2100 rpms in the stock tune. I was always up around 800* with the stock box. Even with my tuner all the way up I can still run under 1000* at 70 mph. That's not to say I cannot hit 11 or 1200 pretty easy if I mash my foot down into it but I have a pretty easy time controlling the EGTs. I attribute it to the AFE and the 4" exhaust.
If you aren't going over 1250 degrees while towing, then you are fine. You can run it all day long at 1150 if you want, it's just going to suck down the fuel faster.
Any programmer will push EGT's over 1300, especially with a load and on higher hp settings. A good programmer will still keep you at safe temps when on a tow setting or lower hp setting. However the Hyperpac is not one of the better tuners out there.
It is normal to see around 1200 degrees with perfectly stock truck towing a large load. There are some folks who go higher and there is nothing wrong with the truck. It's all about how heavy the load is, the rpm's you are running at, and the altitude.
To me it's sounding more and more like your truck is fine.
What were your egt's prior to doing all the work?
Did you check the posistion of the exhaust back pressure valve? It may be stuck in a closed, or partially closed posistion.
I removed the valve completely, should you be able to tow WOT with stock settings without going over 1300 degrees? I might put my air intake back on and try that.
is that with the trailer attached and the chip? How about when in stock unloaded?
When did you start to notice the high egt's has it always been this way, or did it just recently start?
