I have a problem with my rear left drum. My truck has ABS but when I hit the brakes my rear left wheel locks up and pulls the truck to the left upon hard braking. I haven't had a chance to open it up yet. I wanted to see if anyone has had a problem with their ABS. The rear brakes were done last DEC. and haven't had any problems until lately. Is it time to replace the shoes again already. I am wondering if all the rain and flooding we have had in South TX in the past month could be at the bottom of this. I have had to drive through 3ft+ of water to get home on more than one occasion in the last month. Also, I don't know if this is related but when I hit the brakes I get a shifting clunk that I thought was coming from the front left rotor/caliper. I swapped in new rotor, caliper, bearings, seals, brake pads etc. last weekend and that didn't do it. From the drivers seat it feels like it is coming from the front left but I am not wondering if my problem isn't in the rear left and that is why the wheel is locking up. Any suggestions or wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I had the same situation with mine, turned out to be a leaking
axle seal in the rear....replaced both sides/seals while it was apart and did the brakes while I was at it.
Hit the brakes on a dirt road and you'll see pretty quick what's happening...in reguards to front/rear...
Leaking axle seal could very well be the culprit. Something else to check would be an E-brake cable not releasing completely. Make sure both cables move when the brake is released easiest check is at the equalizer. (This is assuming you use the E-brake.) That much water could have seized a few things up in the way of springs and pivots inside the drum too.
