Question check engine light flashes and is sometimes solid????

Hey,
My check engine light came on. I have not had a chance to pull the code .
I'm used to vehicles having a solid (Not blinking) light.
The light was blinking for a few minutes and then solid...then blinking a few moments later.
Is this normal or does it mean anything????
The truck had snow packed into the chasis.. It would not start.
I took my torpedo heater and aimed it at the starter area and it started. As soon as I started to back up, the light kicked on. All guages looked good.
I will pull the code a little later, but am curious to significance of the blinking/solid issue.....
It's a '97 F150 4.6 4x4

o.k,

The code said cylinder number 6 misfire. I cleared the code and it has not returned (only after a few minutes). I know I never replaced the plugs so that will probably be my goal this evening.
I will do some searching here for tips, but if anyone has changed them or knows some tricks, or links...your comments would be appreciated.

Flashing MIL lamp means, "catalyst damaging misfire". Meant to tell the operator to turn off the vehicle, something is wrong!! Try changing the plugs and wires(seeing as u've said they've never been changed) and see how that works. Many times a boot will get wet and will arch to the head causing a misfire....
