CCV mod question

I havn't done this mod yet, and I am thinking about it just to keep my motor clean. However. . . I kinda like the though of that oil running through the turbo and the rest of the engine. What do you guys think about no longer getting that little extra bit of lubrication?

It really doesn't help lubricate the turbo since the shaft is sealed. On top of that, any other oil residue is deposited in the intercooler, so it really doesn't make it to the engine either. International's T444E has the CCV venting to the atmosphere. So there's really no benefit to running the CCV to your intake other than to be slightly more environmentally friendly.

If and when you do the MOD, you will not regret it. When I first did it, I had oil everywhere in the intercooler tubes and EGTS where a little high. Pulled everything out and cleaned it. EGT's back to normal and when I had one of the boots off, well it was clean as a whistle.

When you decide to do the mod, get yourself a short length of 4" dia SS exhaust pipe to replace the plastic factory pipe where your CV is vented into your turbo inlet.

ITP Diesel sells a nice kit, if you do not want to make your own!

I would recommend the mod, just run it to the back of the truck and into a container, put something in as a filter and your not dripping on the driveway.

Or you can plumb it into your exhaust and forget about it all.

CCV mod

Well I think you guys may have convinced me. I'll probably get to it pretty soon, when I can find the time. I have the H2 so the intake pipe is different. I'll just cap off othe tube. If I were to pipe it into a small tank. . . could I put it back in the motor? Should i filter it first? How fast would a quart container fill up?

Once it's out of the motor, I wouldn't make any attempt at "reclaiming" it. Just dump your catch-tank occasionally. It will take a few thousand miles, at the least, to catch any appreciable quantity.

And then, add new oil when you see it getting low on the dipstick, just like you would anyway.

The simple way is to turn the plate on the top of your valve cover around so the outlet is towards the back of the motor.. and then run your 3/4" dia hose up over the booster and down to the frame rail and towards the back of the truck.. Don't let the hose form a trap for the oil in a low spot which will prevent the hose and engine from breathing proplerly.. I use to have my outlet in the engine compartment, but i kept getting fumes in the cab though the vent system.. so i moved it back to the rear spring area, to a catch bottle.. No more fume smell.. You might get about a 1/2 cup every couple of months.

It takes about 19 feet of hose to run it to the rear bumper if you want to go that far.

I used 3/4" Gates heater hose, which is NOT oil-resistant and WILL form a film on the outer surface, but it's cheap and readily-available, and can be replaced when you think it's time. Mine's been fine for over two years.

While you're at the auto-parts house, pick up some stainless screw-type hose clamps, and a 3/4" heater hose "90-degree bend", too. After you turn the "doghouse" around, you'll want that 90. Then up-and-over, just like Clint said.

That 4-inch exhaust pipe is 3-1/2 inches long, and a local muffler shop cut it longer from his scrap and just gave it to me. I trimmed it to size myself.

As far as I can tell, it has never dripped in my driveway.

I have the Racor filter on my CCV. I have about 9000 miles on it so far. No oil in intake anymore, no leaks and have not had the bypass trip on me yet. Replacement Filter for

After u do the mod will the intercooler clean itself eventually ? Or does the oil keep restricting the cooler?

The oil sits in there forever until you clean it out. I did the CCV mod about a year and a half ago, and just 2 weeks ago I removed the stock intercooler and there is still oil in there. Also I kept finding oil inside the cold side pipes.

I haven't drained out the old intercooler yet, so I'm not sure how much oil is still in there. Might do that this weekend since my curiosity has now been sparked.
