ON the Beans diesel web site....which chip? the DP Tuner or the TS performance?
here's what it will be used in/ for
- 1995 F350 CC, 4X4, automatic, 4.10s, stock mostly (PS of course)
- Don't plan on heavy towing...but maybe a travel trailer in my future (max 8-9k lbs)
- I have a camper in the summer times (3500lbs)
- Open air filter, 3" downpipe and 4" exhaust
- Will have Bean's Stage 1s
- Want some fun with it...but want it to be safe on the other parts of the truck
- Of course I am bying the gauges (tranny, Pyro, boost)
- Want to smack the grin off the honda ricers and others hahahaha
- Looking for better fuel economy...if possible, performance...but not at the expense of breaking stuff...and better driveability.
So with that in mind.....your comments will be very appreciated....I know it's been talked to death....but not for me...cause it's all new....
1- stock....just in case...but don't plan to use it
2- a medium tow setting
3- 80hp economy
4- 120hp
5- high idle
6- extreme with smoke cause....you need that every so often...a feel good setting
The DP selctor...in blue looks cool...but not at the expense of performance, reliability and durability....
I don't think you can go wrong with either tony or jody at DP. I would get the multiposition for sure. I would skip the high idle though and build your own but thats up to you.
Also with a chip and stage 1's you will need to address you transmission. A valve body from BTS will be the best thing if not a valve body and torque converter. But with the VB and the chip tuned accordingly you should be pretty good.
BTS is brian's truck stop, builders of one of the toughest ford transmissions the world has ever seen. The valve body you get from him for $225 plus a core charge for your old VB is bit more expensive than the sonnax kit but it does a much nicer job of shifting the transmission. Some have said the Sonnax is finicky and shift to hard sometimes and not hard enough others. But BTS VB with a chip burned accordingly provides awesome shifting and better transmission life from what I have been told. I don't have experience with either BTS or Sonnax so this is all info I have heard and not experienced. I do know that if you tell DP-tuner you have the vavle body they have programs built to work with the VB. TOny Wildman probably has the same.
I am very happy with my dp tuner 4 postion (technically 6)
I have....
1. stock (good for a cold engine, or VERY heavy towing)
2. light tow
3. economy
4. extreme (140)
5. stock
6. stock
I have the older flip switch that usually leaves the last 2 positions empty and it caused starting issues. I had stock program burnt into the 5 and 6 positions.
