UPDATE:

Things aren't looking too good for my coming down this weekend, folks. Logistic problems...the main one being that I can't get to the trailer right now due to the wet weather. It's parked on our jobsite and my boss and the contractor have decreed that there is to be no traffic on the jobsite at all when it's muddy (and is it ever muddy!) I would leave muddy tranches acroos the site dragging the trailer out, and then track the mud halfway up the street which would **** off the city no end. (We've already been warned about tracking mud on the street, next time it'll be a fine. I don't particularly care to be the one to incur said fine...)

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get the camper onto the trailer as well. I guess I could use the camper jacks (if I can get them working again) to take the thing off the truck and put it onto my truck, then cart it down to work and use the jacks again to get it off my truck and set it on the ground, then pick it up with the forklift to set it on the trailer. Once I get down there I'd need another forklift to get ot back off the trailer, and the only one I know of is Mike's. I suppose Jim could come up to Mike's and we could pull it off the trailer and set it back on the ground with the jacks down, then Jim could back under it with his truck and we're good to go.

I was considering backing the truck with the camper on it right onto the trailer, dropping the jacks and driving out from under it then setting the camper down onto the trailer but there are a couple of problems with that idea. I'll have to take some measurments to see if it'll work, but I'm skeptical at this point. I think the whole deal would be shaky and nerve wracking to accomplish, but I'll think on it.

Anybody got any bright ideas?

So at this point I'm going to shoot for next weekend, depending on how much things dry out around here next week...

And of course it's all my fault...

That works for me - I have the 72 ready to go, you can pick it up anytime. As to the camper, sounds like it is better to let Jim come and get it.

My place turned into a mud pit yesterday as well...

No problem to do the transfer here...if you can get it on the trailer, I can get it off!

Uh oh...I'm a thinking here....I gots a plan.

How about Jim use Clints Dolly and dolly the '72 to my place.

Dan can put the camper on his pickup and meet here

We can switch the camper to Jims truck, and Dan can dolly Clints pickup to his place...sorta minimize everyones driving.

If there's any issues with tie down and such needed on Jims truck, we can take care of that here.

I don't recall if Clint has the engine out of the '72 or not, but we could pull it here as well and it wouldn't be too far from him this way..and make the dolly ride back to Dan's place a bit easier.

Sorry, the 72 will not fit on my dolly - the truck is too wide. I just tried it. I can deliver it to your place using a tow-bar, if that will help.

I have not had any luck selling my boat, so I am going to dump the boat itself - leaving a nice 2 axle trailer with hydraulic brakes. I will donate it to the 4wd project if we can come up with the steel to make up some ramps and a bed. That will also give us a trailer we can use for other projects.

I was wondering how we would get the camper off your trailer once you got down here. I live in apartments, and have no access to a forklift. So meeting at Mike's would be a good idea.

I have never owned a camper before, so I was hoping to have help getting it connected/strapped down to the truck and figure out how to wire it so the brake/tail lights work. (Don't need anymore tickets!).

I am still waiting for my neighbor to smog this truck so we can put plates on it. They are already paid for, just need the smog done. Right now it has a temp sticker, however it expires at the end of this month. So my neighbor will have to get the truck smogged sometime next week.

I'm working on things at this end. Problems with the camper jacks, they haven't been used in ten years or so and aren't exactly being co-operative. I think that if I can get them working and get the camper off the truck I'll just be able to squeeze the trailer in between the jacks, but with only fractions of an inch of clearance on each side.

At least the weather is finally giving me a break. I'll have more news in a day or so...stay tuned to this channel for further developments.

Hey Dan,

PB Blaster on them suckers...it'll free up anything. I wish I could find the stuff in a gallon can like WD40 comes in, and just use a squirt bottle.

No problem, just wondering what was going on with the plan. I can go to Mike's this weekend (10-11th) if need be, but next weekend (17th-18th) would be better.

Dan, I have a set of camper jacks built for a dual-wheel truck. The have an extra heavy duty hinge plate that snugs the jack in next to the camper for normal use, or can be swung out to add about 6 inches extra width to each side.

They are for sale, but you are welcome to borrow them to load the camper on your trailer.

Mike, PB Blaster is what I'm using.

Another bit of bad news though...the trailer is an inch wider than the distance between the camper jacks and since it's a triple axle beaver tail the fenders are too far back for the overhang at the back of the camper to allow it to ride forward far enough on the trailer for tongue weight...(did that make any sense?)

So I think I'm going to have to scratch the idea of hauling the camper on that trailer. The other possibility is that I go ahead and finish my bro-in-law's trailer and use it instead. I think a good day or so of work would see it done, especially if I can get him to help me. Be good to have the dang thing out of my hair anyways. So I may work on it this weekend and plan to come down the following weekend. But I also have the possibilty of a new job lined up and may need to do some work there this weekend..depends on how much we can get accomplished after I'm done at work on my regular job tomorrow.
