To Dan and all the others on this site...A BIG THANK YOU!
The filter change went exactly as you said. I even left the hose on the drain tube for future use. I bought some extra filters in tucked them inside my the tool box.
Yes, ZX, Diana came with an F350 PSD dualie, two horses with a gooseneck trailer and two dogs. I came with two teenagers and a mortgage. Guess who got the best deal?
We both lost spouses to cancer and we found each other and we will be married one year on Sunday!
Thanks again to all...I also changed out the air filter. Oil, tranny service and coolant are next.
I gather it started?
Thanks for letting us in on your personal life a little. It reminds us all that there are people behind all these little words on the screen.
I use the Stanadyne fuel additive for my 7.3L. That seems to work good. You might also want to check the glow plugs and the glow plug relay. You can check the glow pugs using about 3ft of 17 gauge wire. Just cut yourself a piece off then take the cap off all the plugs and hold one end on the glow pug and run the other end back and forth across the positive side of the battery. If it sparks on the battery then the plug is good.
Well, I changed out the fuel filter and everything was going good..drove into work and no problems. After work, I started her up and she started spitting and sputtering, doing the same thing as before. Finally, I had to call AAA and have her towed into the Ford truck dealer. Seems that she needed and fuel injector control modual to the tune of $1140! She also had one bad battery (red dot showing in the little window) so I replaced that item myself with a nice unit from Wally for $72. So, considering that this vehicle has not had a lot of mantenance in it's 7 years, I figure we are ahead of the game. I told my wife a complete maintanance package will be done next week....tranny, cooling system etc. I changed out the oil to Rotella-T synthetic 5W40 myself last month. Much quieter and easier to start in the cold.
Glad you got 'er fixed. Not to spend your money, but most here have found that it is wise to replace both batteries at the same time. Since both work as one, the older weaker one tends to pull down the newer one.
OH wow... from now on, if you can afford the time to DO it, check HERE after the stealership suggests any repairs that tall! The one bad battery honestly could have been at least part of the culprit. Generally if an IDM goes bad, it stays bad... the low voltage from the bad battery sounds closer to the problem. I think you will find this is an excellent resource for learning more about these trucks, and saving a ton of green in the process!
