I got home this afternoon and when I went to throw it in reverse there was an enormous clunk and thud, like I had the throttle opened.
Then I get in and drive this afternoon, no problems, until I go to put it in park and it won't go past neutral! I had to force it a little and it went in.
I came out, threw it in reverse, no problem, then tried to go to park and it was stuck again......I had to force it.
I get home, and it goes into reverse just fine, but then the clunk and thud again............
You might want to check your linkage adjustment arm to make sure nothings come loose and make sure your bolt is in tact and secure first of all. Then check your to make sure your Transfer case shifter is slugged in the right range for 2wheel drive. Also you may want to do a finish up check on your rear yoke fo the thud noise. They can get old and worn out over time and get in need of replacement. But that is usually associated with going through your rear u-joint like they're going out of style. Hope that offers some help.
Turns out that the linkage was actually hitting the frame badly, right where the long link that goes from the engine compartment and connects to the linkage in the undercarriage. The little bolt was hitting the frame.
So I disconnected the pivot point that bolts to the tranny housing and had to rig it up a little bit.
Now it shifts smoothly and, well, kind of easily.
Bad news is that the housing around the steering column is broken! And further, it won't start. I'm sure that it is just because there is some little lever or something that is busted.
But I went on a day hunting and 4 wheeling trip and had to borrow my uncle's Suzuki Samuri!
I can turn the gear selector through all of the gears by hand, and I'll probably set up a starter switch under the dash or something. I'm not gonna replace the entire column piece right now if I don't have to. (Great thing about a truck is that this type of thing is acceptable.)
