Talking Help a Newbie

I just want to say that this site rocks!!!

Ok so I have owned a used 2002 F250 for about 6 months. Yeah and PMS has set in, Volant Intake and MBRP exhaust.....oh yeah and 2.5" leveling kit....and Gauges are comming up . I upgraded from a Mustang GT so this is a bit different but my led foot still get the best of me . The truck has 68,000+ miles on it, I am a little concerned about some oil wetting on both sides of the engblock under the manifolds, for now I dont see any drip's forming so losing oil is not a problem.....but I dont know how bad this eng is with oil leaks. Is it about time to have some gaskets changed? The truck was primarily a CA/AZ truck so hot climates were the norm and now that I brought this thing to Montana I figured it would spring some leaks(As my experiance with F-16's in the Air Force has tought me) but I didnt think it would start this early. Any word of advice or wisdome from my fellow PSD owners would help alot..thanks!

Montana, brrr. First step, clean the crap out of the valley area with your favorite degreaser. Pinpont the leak and repair it. Possible sources: HPO lines or IPR or ICP or HPO line fittings.. Also, do not dismiss a fuel leak. Fan will blow it back. Usually comes from the drain valve behind and at bottom of filter bowl but I bought mine with a stupid O-ring leak from the filter cap. Yeah, right from the dealer used truck lot. They really checked that one out during the gazillion point inspection. BTW, diesel can look like oil whem mixed with grime in the valley.

Well I have not had a chance to look in the valley to see if there is any oil but I do know that I can see wetting on the block from both left and right wheel wells, I am assuming its coming from the valve cover gaskets.

If it's on the outside like that, yeah that's about all I can think of as well.

Clean the **** out of the engine first. Second, clean it really well again!!! It is so much easier to spot these small leaks when you have a clean engine and can spot the source of the leak.

jvoigt,
I just joined the PSD Crew myself, and bought about the same truck. Mine's a white 2WD XLT CC with 60k on the clock, but I got it last month. I also had a Mustang GT!! Mine was an '84 Black Convertable 5-speed. After breaking the tranny one too many times, I found a deal on a 351W & C6 which I dumped in there in the mid-90s. I loved it!!

Anyway, how do you like the MBRP exhaust? I've been eyeballing that one as well. Oh, and which version did you get?

Joe

Edit: I'm also in the Air Force. Currently TDY at Tyndall AFB, FL...

Izzy351,

Well I loved my mustang too, It was an 2005 GT and I cant beleave I traded it in but I guess the truck has been more usefull to me than a sports car. I got my MBRP 4" exhaust from a friend who got it off ebay. I do know that it is the installer series cause its the Aluminized series but it came with a SS tip, the whole setup is pretty nice and it comes with everything you need to install except tools. If you live in a place were corrosion is a factor then maybe consider the Stainless steel kits. Considdering how loud the Diesels are anyways its not much louder in the cab but outside it sounds alot better than stock, especially the turbo whistle, you will like it but you might want to ask around some more to get more opinions.

Thanks. I read the exhaust thread and have pretty much made up my mind -- just wanted to get your take on it. Mine's totally stock right now, but since I have the time and the Base Auto Craft Shop, I figure I might as well take advantage of it!! I just changed the oil and noticed the slight oil leaks on the sides & back of the engine, too. Since my previous trucks were pretty much non-performers ('89 BroncoII 2.9L & '00 Ranger 3.0L), it's good to have a "fun" vehicle again. I've been waiting on the right deal on a 7.3L, and when I saw this one at the Ford Dealer's Used lot, I jumped on it. Can't wait to get to the mods!!

So what did you decide for an exhaust? Most definatly take advantage of the base autohobby shop, its nice to have a lift to get under the truck and look around plus it makes exhaust install easy. Well now this truck is my Fun toy and I think I will keep it for a while since there are so many changes with the new diesel's and the 7.3L is such a good motor.

The 4" MBRP T-409 SS kit from here:
http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/mb...el-exhaust.htm

I want something that will last.

And I'm thinking the same thing -- it will be every bit as fun as the 'stang was. But now I can pull a house, room for 4 or 5 comfortably, and if someone in a rice-burner hits me, I'll be much more likely to walk away.

I'm planning on the exhaust (obviously), a mild program, and some other practical mods (Zoodad, CCV, etc). I will be cleaning the foil off the I/C pipe soon, too. Looks SOOO much better under the hood with that mess cleaned up! A buddy of mine got his second dually while he was TDY here and got his all tricked out. I figure I'll do mine up a bit more mildly.

Like you said -- I'm thrilled to have found this site...
