with my tax refund on the way i decided its time to upgrade to 5" exhaust. im wondering how is the interior noise for those of you with and those without a muffler. i dont really care how loud it is to the rest of the world just as long as its not to awful loud inside. also i love turbo whistle. which brings out the whistle more? thanks
mine is 5" strait piped not loud at all in my cab. with the window up.just a low rumble..passenger window down is another story..but I love the sound...I get a nice whistle through my AFE stage 2 with the pro guard 7 filter..

sweet.. there is a powerstroke that drives by my house every night that sounds awsome. i think he has 5" straight cuz ive never heard anything like it. also other then that horrible turbo surge i get will the wicked wheel increse turbo whistle?
Side question for you guys. I have a 5" exhaust that I think is from Banks. It keeps coming loose from the hangers, and I can't seem to get it to hang evenly at this point. Last week, one of the two hanger rods over the axle broke loose, and the rear most hanger is worn out again. My question is should the exhaust hang evenly in all the hangers? The rods seem to be field welded on probably from the guys who installed it before I bought the truck, and some are at a weird angle toward the hangers.
If it aligned correctly it should hang straight. That last hanger has a funny angle to it but should not stress the hanger gromet.
Alan must be a true Jedi mechanic. I toiled with mine forever trying to achieve that straight hanging hangar to no avail. Mine are slightly angled, they got close, then settled. I say this not to disagree with Amiller, just to point out that if during your install you cannot make it happen, no biggy. Get it adjusted tight and without any rubbing and go out and smile. It will stay on there. Mine has for over a year plus.
Seems when I flex the truck, like going over a curb, volkswagon, or whatever twists the frame a little, out it pops. Hard to tell, but I think it might be a little warped by now from me not putting it back in right away and letting it drag on the rear axle. ( Bad things have already happened as a result ) Maybe the muffler is keeping it out of alingment. Might just have to take it out and test it with a nice straight pc of pipe...... <eg>
