HELP!! My Bronco Is Missing!!! While running that is..... Ignition ?
hey all just a little humor i guess but anyway, i have just bought a bronco this weekend and i have almost everything fixed on it except a miss, it idles rough till its warm, it is hard to start the first time after sitting for about 2 hours or more and when you accelerate hard it misses, it misses when in OD, it is an 89 with a 5.0 if anyone know what to check let me know, the guy said it started doing this after the plugs distributor, cap and wires were changed i bought new plugs for it to see if that will work but any suggestions let me know

check the routing of the wires for #7&8. These are the last two on the drivers side, and fire sequentially. A frequent problem with these engines was cross-fire, and it could burn holes in the pistons. Make sure these wires are nowhere near each other.

Did you check the whole firing order? Last week a friend of mine changed the spark plug wires and cap, and the car ran real bad, and called me. They swore that the firing order was correct, that wasn't the problem, etc. Turns out the cap was on 180 degrees wrong, so that where it said number one was halfway across from where it needed to be. So the firing order was technically "correct," but off by 180 degrees! There is a notch that is supposed to keep the cap from going on like it did, but it wasn't too hard to put it on the wrong way. I think you have two of your plug wires mixed up, though. Either that, or the guy who put the stuff on knocked something else off while he was doing it.

There is a number "1" stamped on the cap. When you put the cap on properly, the stamped number is in the location on the distibutor where the number one wire should be, so you start from there. If the stamped number is in the wrong place, then you will be starting your firing order from the wrong place and the timing would be way off. Also, be sure that you ran the wires the right way (clockwise or counterclockwise). Remove the cap and have someone bump the starter so you can se which direction the rotor goes.

PS - if your cap does not have a stamped number 1 on it, and you are not sure of where the number one wire should be, you will have to bring the number one cylinder up to top dead center, and then look at where the rotor is pointing. That is where the number one wire should be.

ok i did take it off and it has a notch in it so it does go on only one way, it was really easy to have it on the wrong way in which i did, but i fixed it and got all the wires put back on in the right place BUT IT STILL HAS THAT MISS IN IT!!!! Please let me know on any other things, i have been told it could be an O2 sensor, i am also tols that the fuel filter could be bad, i am gonna change those 2, anymore suggestions??

Since the problem only started after the parts in question were replaced, it is a pretty safe bet that it is related to them. Since you are sure of your firing order, then you can rule that out. Here is a long shot, but I've seen it happen. The tips on the spark plugs screw on. I once saw one that was loose in the box, and caused a miss. I always make sure those are tight. Also, one of the plugs may be loose in the head and losing compression. Another possibility is that the spark plug wire is not pushed on all the way. It might feel like it was pushed on all the way, but if the metal part is high up in the rubber boot, then it will feel right but not even be connected. You want to feel a definite "click" when you push the wire onto the plug. Also check that the wires are firmly pushed in on the cap, and that you have seperators between the wires to keep them from crossing spark. Ignition timing being off will cause the truck to fun sluggish and be hard to start, but does not really cause a miss unless it is really, really off. But check your timing too, to be sure.

OK I will try all of the things that you mentioned, I am glad you guys are patient enough to deal with a 16 year old kid, I really appreciate it, Thanks Again!!!

No problem. I screwed up a lot of cars, learning to fix them as a 16 year old! They were much easier to work on then, though. An intake, the engina, and an exhaust. No computers, sensors, pollution stuff, they were a lot easier to troubleshoot. But your miss should not be that hard to find.
