How many miles on your truck?
Have you checked the coolant level to be certain you are not losing any coolant via a leaking lower intake manifold gasket?

You mentioned new plugs. What brand?
Did it miss prior to installing new plugs?

Did you install new plug wires?

If you are not losing any coolant, I'd suspect plug wires if you don't have new ones.

You describe a common complaint from folks who need new plugs and wires.

yeah

I had a rebuilt that was a Ford. Had 73k on the truck and it seized. Got another 100k after that Ford rebuilt and motor seized again. I know I put it through hell and that is why it went through two engines but I did expect more from something that only towed a little. Mainly trail driving.

What do you do with your truck? If it involves towing just cut your losses and get something bigger!

Don't get me wrong I love my dead truck but you have to assess what you are doing. The 4.2 is good for a "light duty" truck but that is all! I don't want to hear anything else.

If you have questions pm me I'd be happy to help.

I went bigger with tires and that was all. If you need a truck for something more than civillian duties get a V8 or F-250+ that is the bottom line

Don't get talked into disliking your truck.
If it is reliable and works for you and your needs, it's a good truck.

242,000 miles between 2 F150s w/ 4.2 and I'm perfectly happy.

Regarding plug wires: I use Motorcraft.
Too many reports of problems with others.
