Just Put New Glow Plugs, Glow Plug Controller, Injector Pump And New Return Lines. Now It Smokes Real Bad When It's First Cranked And Continues To Smoke While Driving Down The Road. It Would Only Smoke When It Was First Started Before I Replaced All These Parts. What Would Cause It To Smoke All The Time Now. Also It Started Making A Knocking Noise When You Are Driving About 60mph Or Rev The Engine Up. Can't Tell If It Is Coming For The Bottom End Or The Top End But Sounds Like It May Be In The Top End. Will Not Make This Noise While It Is Idling.
Any Suggestions?
could it have something to do with the timing? i think my mechanic said he changed the timing on it. would that cause it to make a knocking noise? i know it would cause it to smoke if the timing is off.
Id bet my money on timing. Its injecting either too late or too soon, which makes the knock noise from improper combustion, then the unburnt fuel is spent out as smoke.
How many miles on your injectors? Old injectors open at lower pressure, (early) retarded timing = unburned fuel = white smoke. Also old injectors will not pop as they should, so fuel pours in instead of spraying, with a new IP behind them again unburned fuel, white smoke. That would be my guess!
It needs to be timed. Loosen the IP hold down nuts and turn the ip to the right (drivers side) about 1/16-1/8"
That should get it drivable, until you can find a good shop with a timing meter.
Did you remove the IP gear cover, or just the IP?
