The thing I always notice about those truck comparison articles is that the newly re-designed trucks seem to always get the higher ratings. Like Motor Trend Car or Truck of the Year, is never a car or truck design that has been around for 3 or 4 years. I think the magazines just like to hype the latest new products when they come out. I was surprised though that the GM truck was at 3rd place since it just got re-designed? But hey the Toyota with that 5.7 V-8 is pretty damn powerful!! The big 3 need to take notice because like the Accord and Camry stole the car market, the same thing may happen to the big 3 in the truck market. If Japan comes with a 3/4 ton diesel pick up or SUV then LOOK OUT! It's time for the big 3 to put out some 400hp 400 ft lbs or torque engines in their trucks that get 15 mpg city and 20 highway like right now!! One of my company trucks is a F-150 with a 5.4 and it really is a dog, I get smoked by GM's and Dodge Hemis all the time............
WAKE UP BIG 3---SHOW ME THE HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE!!!! A hemi with 345 hp, a 5.4 with 300hp Chevy Vortec 367hp?????? Chevy your getting close but higher!!

i agree 100% But..... you just wait i dont know what engine the redeisgned F150 will have in 09' but Im certain that it will have more then 300hp heck maybe even more then 350hp. Ford is gonna do something and will come out with something to compeat with the 381hp yoda and chev and dodge. The only thing is why implement a new engine in a dated body design. Why not just come out with a newly redesigned truck with a brand new drivetrain. Ford will come out with a bigger engine and better tranny for the F150 and when they do. Ill be waiting.
From the first issue of M/T in 1949 till only a few years ago, they tested all the trucks against each other in any given year for the award. Now their system is only vehicles that are new to the market or redesigned/restyled for the year, that can win the award. In 2007, 4 of the 5 trucks tested were from GM.
So, in 2008, it will be Tundra vs Titan, and any other newly redesigned pickup for that year. Tundra is eligible, because it was late to the market in 2007 and was not tested by M/T.
Rumor has it that Tundra and Titan will both offer diesels in 2010.

There is one good thing about this competion in the Truck market: Toyota and Nissan are forcing the big 3's hand into making higher quality better performing trucks!! It used to just be that Chevy would make more power, then Ford counters and then Dodge one ups them both and then Chevy comes back with more and Ford etc..........Well now there are 2 more auto makers in the mix......it's not all bad!! It wasn't too long ago that I thought my 1999 Chevy Sub with a 5.7 and 255hp was pretty damn powerful, I look back and laugh now! Now I am driving a 2004 6.0 Excursion with 325hp and 570 ft lbs of torque??
i hear all this rage about the 381 hp tundra (which is no doubt impressive), but the gmc offers a 400 hp and 417 tq out of a pushrod variable timed motor. i think that the difference is that most people are arent going to do the regular 1/2 ton tasks with an expensive denali truck. i assume that that is the reason that its not too mentioned on this thread.
While 381 and 400 HP figures look impressive, when dyno'd, the RWHP figures are quite different. Edmunds in their 3 way pickup comparison tests, dyno'd the 5.7 381 HP Toyota, the tests showed 321 RWHP. Edmunds also dyno'd the 6.0 Chevy 367 HP engine, it came out as 297 RWHP. Titan was 317 HP, 291 RWHP.
Automotive News article last year discussed manufacturers wild HP claims. The one figure I recall...the Hemi Ram with 345 HP, dyno'd to.....262 RWHP. Quite a drop.

My vote goes for the all new 2008 Superduty. It has way more new ideas...folding bed extender, step up built into the tailgate.

I haven't looked closely at a SD, what do you mean by a folding bed extender? One that flips over from the bed, and back, or one that folds up somehow?
Does not look adjustable. I don't think it really goes to low to the ground, I think it might be the angle at which the picture was shot. Scrowl down in this link and you will see that it comes down to the bottom of the bumper. There is also a better picture of the extender.
