Ok, there has to be some way to keep water and snow and stuff from coming in the engine bay....Anyone have any tips? I'm not looking for a hardcore-no-water-can-get-in kind of thing, just something to keep the water from splashing up in there when I go flyin through puddles. Anyone done this or have any ideas?
Well it is pretty much inpossible to waterproof a engine compartment. Mostly due because you need to keep it open to keep the engine cool and if your driving most water would either come from the grill or bellow it. If you wanted to be really extream, you could relocate your radiatior and fans to the bed and seal the grill, then either put a fabricated splash guard from the bottom radiator braket to just below the engine where it mounts to the body. The real problem there is what kind of suspension you have in the front. My truck 88 f150 4x4 has an independant front suspension and its posisble for my suspension to compress so much that it wouldnt work for the above. But simply put, you can just put a 4 or 5 inch width sheet metal and weld it at an angle to the bottom your grill to deflect most of anything that would splash up there.
window screen infront of the rad and from the bumper back.water will hit the screen and make lil bublesin the mesh keepin the rest of the water out.its not the most durable but itl last about a year
look in your fenderwells between the frame and that plastic shroud and if their is a gap and mabye you can even see your manifolds (like mine) than get piece of rubber or anything to cover that gap cause your tire will constantly throw stuff into your engine if it is left open
yeah performance assessories makes a set of gap guards for your truck if you have a body lift but you can still buy them if you don't you will just have to do a lot of trimming they are very flexible and easy to install
go to jcwhitney.com and type in gap guards in the search
