I have a '06 Explorer with 6,000 miles on it that has developed a rough idle that comes and goes. It will idle smooth as can be for a few minutes, then start shaking like it lost a plug or a vacumn leak. Then after about 30 - 60 seconds it smooths out again. It doesn't seem to matter if the air is on or not , in gear or not, etc. I haven't been able to determine a "trigger" for the rough idle. Has anyone experienced this or can explain whats happening?
Thanks, Huckster
The dealer had it for a day and a half and said their tech. couldn't find anything wrong with it. If it was my job to troubleshoot and repair $20K+ automobiles, I wouldn't admit to not being able to tell something is wrong with it when it's running like this one is. I'll drive it some more and take it back when it gets worse. If that's possible. I've got a bad feeling about this.

After the dealer had the car for about two weeks they finally found the problem. First they replaced the intake throttle body. That helped, but the engine still had a shaking fit that would come and go. The service manager got involved and found a bad fan/clutch assy. It was so far out of balance that it would shake the engine big time when it engaged. Perseverance paid off. It runs fine now!!!
