ok, my c6 is acting funny now!!! it shifts really smooth and doesn't slip. but my problem is going from park into a drive gear. it doesn't want to get into gear. it has plenty of fluid and all. even going from R to D it takes its sweet time. anything i can do, or do i need a rebuild?
I don't know anything about anything other than my AOD but that is what mine started to do before I ended up rebuilding it. Like I said, get some others advice here and don't count on what an AOD only guy thinks.
Is it just the linkage? What do you mean by takes it sweet time to go from Park to Drive? Once you move the shifter it takes a second before it actually shifts into drive? how many miles on it all my C6 trannys have shifted flawlessly even after 100K miles.
when i say it takes its sweet time, i mean when it is cold it takes like 5 min...no joke. i have to put it in drive and sit there till it decides to go into drive. when it is warm, it is more like 5-10sec. i know it takes a lil time to change gears and all but my old c6 i have behind a 460 never acted like this. that tranny as soon as it hit the D it was in drive without hesitation. the tranny has about 150,000 i think.
It's just plain worn out. That is how most Ford automatics die, they get real slow to engage when cold. 150K is a good lifespan for an automatic. A C-6 with no major broken parts should be cheap to rebuild. The newer E4OD is a nightmare by comparison.
As a last case ditch effort, I think that I would try to drain about 2 quarts and then add back 2 quarts of Lucas Transmission Fluid. It has great sticking grabbing abilities and is a great product. I have read of a few last efforts that this resolved problems.
Definitely can't make it any worse huh ?
Like Jared said, check your accumulator first though.
