Granny gear
Will a 1979 F-150 4X4 5 spd mannual transmission(low 1st gear) be a dirrect swap to a 1996 F-150 4X4 5 spd mannual(high 1st gear)? 5th gear in each is considered overdrive. What are the part #'s for each tranny? What about the transfer case? The 79 is a 300 6 cyl. and the 96 is a 302 v-8. I gotta believe the 79 tranny is superior to the 96 tranny. Thanks

The bellhousings are compatible, so they will bolt up. The transfer case should also bolt up, but you will have to shorten/lengthen the linkage to get it to fit right.
However, no '79 F-150 came with a 5 speed, so I have no idea what tranny that would be - maybe someone swapped in a ZF?
