95 F 250 7.3 Mannual 4 X 4 tranny swap

Finally getting it done but got a nagging question. Took tranny from a 91 both were 5 speed. 92 was extended cab long box. It ran a 2 piece drive shaft. The 95 has a single piece both slip yoke at tranny.

My nagging question is the reason had to change the tranny is the tail shaft housing split off right at the transfer case. Is this common? Was the drive shaft maybe something that was done after and maybe not enough stroke is what broke my other tranny?

Anyone with a regular cab 95? Please tell me if you have a 1 or 2 piece driveshaft.

Single cab has a one-piece driveshaft. SuperCab long bed is two-piece with a carrier bearing. This is really a replacement rather than a swap, as both trannies should be ZF-S5-42 4x4 trannies. Tranny is the same regardless of cab/bed.

"Slip yoke at the tranny"? Um, the driveshaft doesn't go to the tranny.

Now you got me confused LOL Rear drive shaft slip yoke slides into the tail shaft and the universal bolts to the yoke on differential. Right?

Yes, into the tail shaft of the transfer case. Not the tranny.

OK I stand corrected. Still wondering how in the world that case broke like that. I have been around a lot of trucks and never saw one pop open like this. I sure don't want a repeat performance.

My 2WD 96 diesel (reg cab, long bed), manual had a two piece. The 95 4WD (reg cab long bed) had a one piece. The hybrid I built out of those two has a custom one-piece that seems to be fine.
